Cheers for the info. Am now on the waiting list.
Fingers crossed.

What about getting the train back? I remember last year the tickets weren't very expensive at all.
-
• #354
Last year they ran a single special train from Darsham with extra bike spaces (20?) instead of the usual 4. Only half a dozen people took it. Not sure if they're running it again this year but I'm going to chance it.

I'd be interested to know this. Last year we rode 30 miles back to Diss. Though a lovely route in the morning sunshine we had advance tickets and were cutting it pretty fine. Then I got a puncture 10 miles from the station - a 10 mile time trial after no sleep and 140 miles was no fun.

I have heard tell that the extra train is indeed running, and that there will be a 9.44am train to Liverpool Street from Darsham as well as the usual 8.44am and 10.44am services.
A cursory glance at the national rail enquiries website does not confirm this rumour, but the NRE website has form for telling me grotesque and flagrant lies. Somebody might want to ring the station or something to confirm. If I decide to go home after going hard at Dunwich I will also be chancing the extra service.

my plan this year is something like this without the TT -
• #358
yeah the last time i did DD Sam and i rode on to Diss, but not with a time bound ticket. i think it is what i will do this year.

What about camping on the beach? Has anyone ever done that? Seems so romantic. :')
I'm also pleased to find out other people call cycling with a deadline 'TTing' :')

I've told the wife we're going to have a lovely family day out at the seaside on Sunday 21st.
I haven't yet told her the travel plans, but I expect she'll be pleased to learn that I'm getting a train down to London the night before and cycling up and that she's driving the kids to Dunwich on her own and bringing us all back home together. Probably with me asleep all the way back.

I admire your optimism.

You can really learn a lot about how to run a successful marriage by reading cycling forums. I am recently married so making note of all the great tips out there.
That did not make my list.

i misread that as "how to ruin a successful marriage" and couldn't figure out why that pro tip didn't make the cut as it looked like an excellent suggestion.

Fortunately I am an exceptional lover, so she'll probably stick with me.

So what kind of facilities await us at the beach, more specifically in the way of food, toilets, and shelter [british summer and all that innit].
-
• #371
there are toilets and there is a pub and a restuarant.
And there is the Beach.

• #372
and if you're very lucky there may be avocets as well
one year, when it rained a lot, and the cafe was full, and the eaves of the building were inadequate, I wandered back to the church and sheltered there. I was the only person there and it was warm and dry and quiet.

if it rains, im not riding...
well if it rains, and we havent set off yet, then im not riding.
-
• #374
last time I did the ride, it was raining hard as i headed up to Hackney. Then the sun came out, and there was a rainbow ahead of us as we rode up the Lea Bridge Road.

Its done that too me, i think last years one in fact. Amazing.
However, there is a waiting list enabled so if you place yourself on this list you will have an opportunity to buy any tickets that are no longer required. The e-ticketing system we are now using will manage this, so there is no manual intervention by Southwark Cyclists.

Good luck!
