• Veaslius's Longstaff is a thing of beauty. saw it last week. such a great build.

i ended up going for a route over the mudguards and under the center-pulls in-between the gap, quite hidden, direct, clean-ish and simple....

only major issue, i mounted and re-wired the light and it no longer works.... can't see why. looking for online technical plans of vintage dynamo / light set up with no luck..... anyone have a clue, ideas or pointers? its driving me mad.

other than that, i am done. will take Pat for a spin in the morning, really looking forward to that.

  • still cant get the light to work!

i know the tire is on the wrong way. i will turn the wheel around in the morning and give a tidy up, tweak ect.... it looks a little shabby around the edges, i didn't polish anything. i think it adds to the charm....
picture of the cabling and the finished bike. will take some better pictures when i go out tomorrow for a test ride.

  • should have said, its not polished, but all the threads and bearings have been cleaned and re-greased, its running really well......

its a bit wet outside, so a couple of pictures from inside. i added a rolled up wax jacket with essential tools. hope i don't have to use either.... always be prepared.

  • Looking awesome.

Now put a massive mudflap on it to be even drier.

  • Very tidy build. chainset suits it so much!but this:

Chainring arms should be equal either side of crank. Only one position on 5-pin fixing will give this.

would make it look even better

  • putting out one last call before i pull out all my hair. used the same wires, connected the same way as when it was working. but since i installed it on the bike..... nothing! am i doing it wrong?

mmmmm.... how do i do this?

  • Chainring arms should be equal either side of crank. Only one position on 5-pin fixing will give this. I will check it out on Saturday - Chief Constable S P

    a little help?

  • hope that makes sense...

  • sweet! knocked that up quite apollo! thanks, will get on that later.....

    still need light help.....

  • TA ring should be memed...

5 holes / 6 spider-arms / confused... not sure which one to use though...

Well I suppose that due the size of the ring 5 arms would not have been strong enough... Do smaller rings have 5 arms only?

    Wooooo I am confused...

thanks buddy, glad i pulled it together in time......

i quite like it without the mudflap, i know its a wee less functional, but i'm going to let aesthetics win out on this one.

  • Hmmm, the dynamo looks like it should work. Bear in mind they are directional... Tried swapping the terminals on the lamp? If not then has the bulb blow? Cannot see what has gone wrong.
In the future, try putting a light fixture from a modern led torch in rather than the bulb, makes it incredibly bright and actually useful!

  • Brother Apollo, that's a great diagram, will use it as well.

its working! put a new bulb in...... took a bit of hunting to find one.
i really want it to be as authentic as possible. putting a light inside the lamp just wouldn't cut it for me.

  • now i have to sort out my tweed outfit......

  • Looking good! There is a distinct lack of tweed in the charity shops near me.... I've been after a predominantly green Harris tweed jacket for over 6 months.... I think they are back in fasion Or something.
I was going to say clean the terminals with some wire wool, but you're sorted. I've got a vintage caradice waxed cycling cape that would look the part there!

Yep, check out recent suits in places like next, they mainly have a tweedesque style to them.

  • Rip his arm off for the waxed cape, I hate (love) to be the bringer of bad tidings, but it's due to rain......

  • come into my cave my little pretty.... i have puppy's and sweets and lots of bicycle treats...... ha ha.

just back from the last practice ride, soaked to the bone and knackered.... but still surprisingly happy.... really nice feeling riding around london with 40 other cyclists. you feel like you own the road for a couple of hours, cars cant compete with an 80 wheeled vehicle.

  • Am I the 'bike catcher'?

    Mwaaaahhaaaaaa!

  • just back in from another ride. have not yet had time to really test Pat out. dynamo works, chainset is amazing. (s)he really picks up speed. fun to ride.

my kit is ready, i'm off to bed. early start. night night.

  • It's a rupert the bear scarf!

I hope all goes well today, to everyone involved. :0)

  • Might crack out the kilt today...
