  • Hardcore that was......apologies for not stopping for a drink on the beach(that doesn't class as a 'fail' does it? )

  • stupidly i had to miss this as we had a lunch with friends booked... They then cancelled at around 10.

    oh well... Next year

  • Looks like a great ride. (Although quite Ramaye swimming in his bibs can >>>>>)

Will have to have a crack at this later in the year I think.

    LunchBreaker ..

  • Sadly didn't break it sooner. Hope you had fun!

  • ...gutted I bailed near Woking. The brain and bike said yes but the body said whoa. Cry baby reasons/excuses include an unbroken in Brooks saddle, probably the hottest day since records began and cycling the previous day.

The tip about wearing gloves was an understatement, it was Chilean miners hardcore!

Thanks to the German (I think) for saving my light bracket and to the bloke in glasses for the speedy loan of a Swiss Army tool to fix it.

Despite my early departure, I enjoyed the route covering areas new to me. So John, I salute your platoon leadership.

  • to those who did it single speed - props
to those who did it fgfs style - mad props
to those who did it on brakeless fixies skidders more suited to herne hill than the forests of west london .... massive respect ...... your gooches will probably be still shouting at you !

great ride once again john it's nice to do these out of the ordinary rides and test bike rider and garmins to the limit !

wey navigation channel from the thames down to pretty much guilford was a beautiful section of river i could ride there much more often given the chance

brighton was welcome when it arrived, our route into brighton though left much to be desired it just seemed an excuse to scale the highest heights of the south downs ... not welcome after 80 miles

the off road timetrialling train along the disused section of railway was great 8-10 bikes all tighly packed whipping through the countryside

    can't wait for next years

first ever forum puncture it took it sweet time coming hopefully the next one will be another 5 years

    dicki ( black mtb )

  • I'm sooo glad you had that puncture then, the timing was brilliant, some of us were really hanging on then, we were zipping along a bit too quick for comfort.

  • whats fgfs dude?

  • the pace started quick and stayed there didn't it ! ... caught me a bit by surprise it did ! i was off the back in the first 1km, only through luck and following the thames did we catch up with the peleton
didn't move out of mid peleton after that

  • Fixed Gear Free Style innit...... isn't it ?

    chris and john and shinkuu

  • "didn't move out of mid peleton after that".....tactics, did you use to race then?

  • nah.... just wanted to avoid the embarrassment of being dropped again !

i got dick(i) of the day in the first half mile, after dropping my snickers ( not a euph ! ), didn't want any repeat

  • Good ride everyone, enjoying the pics of the colliery day out to Brighton, fuck we were filthy.

Swimming in bibs rocks although I did take them off once in the water to wash myself properly.

  • pukes in mouth

  • too much information

  • dimi ... you can see us on this picture i think ... up molesting the sheep ! on the top left of the photo right on the ridgeline ... i think he saw us but was afraid of the hill !

  • dimi can't do hills he's not a very strong rider...

  • Awesome ride!! great pics and a good day out with you lot.
    That infamous snickers...

Although i did bring a spoon to a knife fight. guess this gives me an excuse to build another bike. yah!

  • you didn't bring a spoon to a knife fight you brought a water pistol to a nuclear war

you are mr " wrong choice of bike "
    tubs for deepest darkest essex
full on fixie skidder & brakeless for MTB'ing around sussex
whats next big wheel for a track day

  • haha give you a fiver to do one lap of herne hill on that big wheel beast

  • top of the banking too.

  • how remiss of me to not do a post-ride-post.
I have no experience of off-road riding.
This was almost completely off-road and as such I feel I was on the wrong bike! I really enjoyed the ride but it would have been much more comfy with front shocks. indeed I find myself shocked just writing that - me who has always derided such things on all but the most rocky terrain.
anyway cheers to john & chris for guiding us and everyone who made it such fun.
also a REP to John for covering us in his dust!

  • Superb! Did the ride come through Petersfield? I am guessing you must have ridden on the South Downs Way for at least some of the way?
