Tourney: 2013 UK Championsips and Euro Qualifiers 2013/06/01-02

I'd like to experiment in the next tournament with 5 minute overtime periods (as long as the schedule isn't too stretched).

I think it might be fairer, and if it doesn't use up too much extra time, could be a realistic option.

My own preference is having them together was great. But yeah I'm easy I'm sure we could do either with plenty of planning. Building courts cost money so making one great thing works for me. If people really want to do it a certain way some options on how it can be done and where and who? Potential for Herne hill and maybe Bristol will still have two courts.

We are going to bring the courts back to London for the remainder of the tourney season hopefully. Looking into storage and long term pallet hire now.

I was previously against having the two together, but I think camb worked it really well.

With 30 teams and 2 courts you could do something like the following? It does seem to take much more time however...
4 rounds of swiss then top and bottom teams go out with each extra round = very accurate top 9 after ~18.5 hours.
3 rounds of swiss then top and bottom teams go out with each extra round = very accurate top 9 after ~16 hours.
4 rounds of swiss then top 2 and bottom 2 teams go out with each extra round = pretty accurate top 10 after ~12.5 hours.
3 rounds of swiss then top 2 and bottom 2 teams go out with each extra round = pretty accurate top 10 after ~10.5 hours.

Maybe worth doing as an experiment for another time? In my opinion it'd be cool to work out a format that meant the UK Champs/Euro Qualifier could continue to be the same event.

Cheers cambridge brethren ! I had an awesome weekend. Sorry I disappeared so soon. After reffing a few games, the heat (and cider) hit me pretty hard and I pretty much slept from 6 onwards.
On another note,Is there any threads that explain podium,what all the numbers mean and how fixtures are paired? I tried my hardest to figure it out with no luck. Felt like we had a tough ride all weekend but maybe we should quit bitching and play harder.

As I understand it:

1. Seed all the teams
   
2. Top plays bottom, second team plays second from bottom
   
3. Sort list by game points (3 for win, 1 for draw), then by seed
   
4. next round: play 1 vs 2, 3 vs 4 etc to see what the difference is between the teams who have the same results so far.
   
5. goto 2
   
   

I know 3 is the behaviour for the later rounds but I don't know if that goes right back to round 2.

This means if you have 2 wins 1 loss after three rounds, you're likely to play a team with the same results so far, so that we find out which team is best.

Yeah, it all takes more time. than we had.

But I agree, it would be a cool format.

Moving all the boards was hard work this morning but it got done, amazing how little space these two courts actually take up. Regarding the boards we were talking about the possibility of finding an old/unused tennis court and making one permanent court out of some of the boards. (most likely 1/3)

I loved the 2 in 1 bargainous tournament. UK champs and Qualies the same thing for the win.

Posting this here too as I'm not sure who has to sort it out but I'm gutted that neither Woody or Aidan can come so Mega Sharks have to drop out of the Euros Wildcard. I'm available as a sub now! I'm going to email Stan and let it be known that if I can form a team we are up for any extra wildcard spots going (longshot). Probably my only Euros chance so big cryface :(

Thanks Cambridge for a really well run tourney, I personally liked the format. You basically had 2 good chances of qualifying for the euros (5 swiss rounds then round robin) then a fun uk champs the day after.

Some next level polo played towards the end of the day on Sunday. SB/DC double final was inspiring stuff. Daverage Vs GW was the stand out game for me though. That shouting move Chris did on Lee in goal was priceless. Trigger was top form, MVP IMO. Daverage were a joy to watch all weekend.

Props to Megasharks and ELA. Aidan and Woody linking up well with Jess holding up the back. Really the surprise team of the tourney, Woody has really stepped up his game.

ELA, great play all weekend. Shame Joe can't make it to Krakow, you guys are a tight defensive unit.

Big up to my G's for another awesome weekend together, gutted to go out so early on Sunday but looking forward to Krakow.

We have some star quality in the UK right now, this could be our year.

On a side note, next year I think the format needs more discussion. I wasn't prepared to play 12 games in a row and it certainly affected some teams the next day. Although I slept like a baby last night!

Also; what's happening with the boards now?

All of the pallets were returned to the land of pallets, all of the rest of the wood is stored wtih Angelo. We would be happy for the wood to be used for any upcoming tournaments...
