Additionally, this one seems pretty ideal FG/SS but I dash home for my gears if it's going to get all Smasharound McCoy?
50 miles yesterday plus riding out today SS means you're welcome to smash it all you like, but I'm going to be crawling along with bothwell I think.

Fine night for a ride - looks like a few people who know the route well. A couple of bits to watch out for on this route; the 6 or 7 mile stretch between Codicote and Hitchin on the way out tends to have a bit of traffic that may split the group up and requires some singling-up. We'll re-group just before the first roundabout at Hitchin if we get split up. After that it's quiet lanes, one draggy climb and a 7+ mile straight stretch from Lilley back to the B656/Codicote. Things generally get strung out along here as those that can, do... we'll regroup at the T junction at the end just before Codicote.
Vello - as Rameye says there's usually some no shows, so put your name down if you can make it. The next train (19:34) gets in to WGC only 12 mins later if we have any probs with bike capacity. I have a spare Exposure Spark I'll bring along if you want a loaner light.
Additionally, on the Lilley to Codicote stretch, the only ambiguous point is a crossroads straight after a short sharp rise. Just keep going straight on, if you find yourself isolated.
If I bother attempting to hoon the fixie up Gravel Hill, I doubt I'll be in any fit state to ramp it up on the way back to Codicote.
We also tend to regroup at the right-hander shortly after the longish climb.

And also, please note we're not strictly allowed to take bicycles inside the shopping centre, but the signage is sufficiently woeful to claim ignorance.
Having said that, try to be circumspect and sensible when shouldering bikes down the escalator, and don't block the entrance to the mall whilst you fiddle about with lights and perfect the jaunty angle of your casquettes or whatever.

For anyone riding out:
http://www.bikemap.net/en/route/2163314-central-to-welwyn-gc/#/z14/51.67702,-0.22428/terrain
#/z14/51.67702,-0.22428/terrainthere is a funny wiggle/backtrack half way where google maps indicates a bike path under the M25, but bikely doesn't recognise this. So I've indicated it using a bit of a funky backtrack / double back.
if you use it just be aware

I'll be riding 80+(+) GI s.
so I might be smashing down hills, but I wont be smashing up them.Think I recall doing this fixd last year. Pleasant enough.
chain brake also useful for travellator descent. - YAL

Just had a call from a friend (Matt) who's keen to tag along but doesn't fancy the ride out. If you see someone looking lost with a white Marin CX-commuter, give him a wave. Did someone say they had a half-reasonable light available for loan? He's got lights, but I'm not sure they're quite up to Hope Vision 1 spec so any additional lumens he could cadge would be appreciated.

Lost me there, who's for riding up and down the travellators tonight?

I don't want a repeat of the unwanted attention from security after mikec dried his clothes on the heat curtain above the main doors.

Depends if we bring our bikes.

If all 13 turn up it might be iffy, but with train 2 only 12 mins back we can spread the load. Just turn up ready for the 19.18, if we can't all squeeze on some of us can wait for the 19.34 (and perhaps a second Big Mac meal).
