  • I just closed my eyes "for a second" at my desk and fell asleep! I am too tired to be anything but a menace to all and sundry so I think it's better if I go home and have an early night. It is (of course) nothing to do with staying out drinking cocktails until 2am yesterday.

    8/10/13 E4 Ecstacy - Chingford

    Liverpool St 19.18
    Return trains: 10, 25, 40, 55 past the hour, last train 23.25
    15 miles BTCL

    Best done on an Oyster

30 mile strip of tarmac mostly with trees and fields on either side. Surprising number of motorways crossed (by bridge), possibility of cows and deer on the road.

  • Ok, groupsave 1 it is. I'm still taking the train, usual place at L'pl St if any late entries fancy it.

DH, you've ridden before so you know the score, your mates are welcome so long as they toe the line, FG or SS, no riding like a cunt (ok, that's asking too much, but as little as possible).

  • Looking forward to this, should be a pleasant evening. Muggy out, though

  • only just got home and I'm too knackered. Shame as the weather looks perfect. Hope you all have a fab ride.

  • This too tired thing is not an excuse by the way. The number of times I've worried if I'd stay awake long enough to get to the start let alone do the ride, yet 10 mins in an you're wide awake. On the other hand I'm usually still awake a 2 in the morning still buzzing from the ride, so yeah, not so good if you want an early night.

  • So I'm here incredibly early.

Anyway I totally agree, riding wakes me right up (and yes it keeps me up when I get home as well). Sorry to miss you regardless though Hats

Since I'm just killing time here I'll just state for the record that I much prefer taking the train, it's just that it's quite close and I am fucking cheap.

  • Matt had to get the train all by himself, I waved him off at the station but am now back at work.

  • Shouldn't you be working, not loafing about on here.

train was a bit late leaving but I'm on my way.

  • Waiting, beer in hand.

No worries, it's more that we're all on gears and one is very much a beginner in terms of group and distance riding. Anyway, I just got back and it was a perfect evening out - hope you chaps had a similarly good time!

  • apologies for absence, went home via Norths, by the time of conquering the hill it was 7, then dithered, seemed a little tight to get to Chingford so had a couple of Seafarers instead! will endeavour to make more of an effort for the next edition.. Zz

    {eagerly awaiting announcement of the route}

  • We always end on Surrey Hills. We always end when the clocks change. So the next one will be the last ever TNRC and will be Surrey Hills.

Then of course there are the end of season drinks, then the plans will be made for next year.

  • What an excellent, if somewhat warm evening. Still disappointed I didn't get to meet the infamous hats, but the ride made up for that.

  • Great ride and great crew. Will he sadly indisposed for the season closer, but hope to make drinks.

  • Great fun out there tonight. Good pace too - thanks to MoN for leading us all round.

  • +1 to all the above. Thanks again for leading MoN, it was a perfect pace. I'm sure I owe you a pint (and sorry I didn't say goodbye last night) so I'll make sure to get one in for at the season ender.

  • yeah, real nice ride! Thanks MoN! Thanks to upstart for the help with the flat.

Got home before 11, which is sort of unheard of for tnrc, right?

  • This too tired thing is not an excuse by the way. The number of times I've worried if I'd stay awake long enough to get to the start let alone do the ride, yet 10 mins in an you're wide awake.

In the end I had to work late and then nearly fell asleep at some traffic lights on Chelsea Embankment. There's needing fresh air to perk up and then there's zombie tired.

Sorry to miss you regardless though Hats.

    I'm sorry too, youramericangorilla!

Still disappointed I didn't get to meet the infamous hats, but the ride made up for that.

Don't worry, you're not missing much!

  • Good ride that, ta. Cheers for the rideout / return routes too.

  • there's a small chance I might actually be up for this depending on my schedule, there's an even smaller chance that I might be on a new 'fixed gear' bike... I haven't ridden fixed for like 3 years so watch out!

  • Well I enjoyed that. It's a good route, rolls nicely, couple of short sharp climbs to keep it honest and plenty of fast flowing descents. Shame about that section on the Epping New Road but I really don't think there is a decent way round it, better men than me have tried to no avail. That pothole was huge and with the traffic passing too there was very little that could be done to avoid it, on reflection I'm surprised that there was only one puncture.

Other than that it was all textbook. 17.2 mph avg. good bunch riding and pretty traffic free.

Season finale: 22nd Oct in the Surrey Hills, I'm not about, so who wants to take the reigns?

  • My rear tire was flat this morning. I expect the impact of the hole broke a seal on one of the multitude of patches on the inner.

  • I was hoping to be around for the final TNRC but cannot make this. Have fun!
