  • Mrs Fix has put the AAs on sprint charge for the 2 loaner torches now that she's back from summer holiday activities at Freightliners Farm.

    #loveofagoodwoman

  • looks like a night of suffering is gonna take place then!

unless any other TNRCer would like to relieve me!

perhaps i'm being overly pessimistic - perhaps all the inevitable sweating is what's needed...

    :-)

  • {maybe this ThNRcyC thing could've had its own thread - apologies for over frantic expression!}

  • fab - just noticed that there's an Awesome Foursome afterall!!

  • Save the thinking for when you have to officially do backstop duties on Tuesday ;)

  • I do but I'm eating Persian.

    excuse me.

  • see you just before 7

  • **ThNRcyC**

Thu 1st Aug: Hemel Hemstead II - "Pitches and Hoes"
    Train out from Euston 19:04
    Return : 22:25/37/53, 23:47.

1 x GroupSave4 only. This is not a TNRC. I repeat, this is not a TNRC. This is a beta product with testing invitations for 4 people only.

    1. BMMF
    2. AirTime
    3. RadMich (on a clunky Charge - so sweat expected to keep pace!)
    4. Chalfie

if anybody wants Place Number Three on this ride, happy to tag-team (low-fives) with you at Euston Station, will be there in good time for 7pm with some innovative beer in-rucksack..

  • Light borrowers - you might want to buy yourself 2xAA Duracells each as backup. Turned out to be a bad batch with a dead cell that were put on to charge, so none took any juice. I’m currently sprint charging another batch, but they’re unlikely to get a full cycle. These 2AA torches normally get 3hrs on the high beam with fresh batteries, so I’m sure you’ll get an hour though.

  • I’ll leave the cells charging till 6.15ish, then make my way to Euston for 6.30ish to queue. Closer to 6.45pm you can all get there the better…

07890 993 916 if things go out of whack.

  • howrad: don't fucking bail out now.

BMMF: noted. I'll grab a pack of 4 from sainsburys/euston. leaving my desk now. Getting changed. aerating tyres.

  • Howrad. This^.

  • Thanks for that. We’re now safe, à la Jim Bowen. See you soon.

  • And I never agree with chalfie.

  • ^^ Nothing in this game for two in a bed?

  • Typical that after sorting out other people’s lights, my rear LED bounced off on the way to Euston, and my contingency one was without charge. Just as well I was leading.

Anyway, what a mellow evening under the setting sun. Fantastic. Or should I say:

Some findings: we will get the 19h24, because the 19h04 is fucking rammed; and we’ll do the shorter route if it’s a standard mixed-ability TNRC group; we’ll happily avoid any waiting around for the nearly-midnight train that way. The route flows well enough in the 34 mile configuration.

Thanks to Airtime, Howrad, & Chalfie for a most excellent ride.

    Armagnac now.

  • Not much to add, lovely lanes, countryside, good company.
Hemel is officially the best station, the 2240 to Euston is followed by the 2243 to east croydon. Allowing south based tnrcers a direct journey home.

  • I'm awaiting the photographs that followed awaiting the photographers...

  • Also, respect to train woman who promoted pride in eating jelly straight out of the packet, and the randomly standing staring man who turned out to be an oldskool fixed rider.

It's like there's some sort of correlation between weirdness and riding fixed (unless you're just a bandwagon jumping fashionista cunt).

  • Great ride! Thanks to BMMF for organising and taking us on a really scenic route. Didn't know that part of the country was so nice. Had a great sunset view at the top of Ivenhoe Beacon, what a day to be out on the bike!
Special mention should be given to Howrad and his unusual style of training which involves cycling with a heavy rucksack full of beer, work clothes and no doubt the kitchin sink. Even with a crippling back i don't think he lost that big beaming smile.
Kudos to Chalfie for taking a turn with the bag and powering up some of those hills as well!
    Looking forward to Tuesday already!

  • I felt a bit weird having a freewheel.

  • some pics
