  • do it. but let us know you made it so we don't wait needlessly.

  • I'm on the 19.27 train with matt(someone's friend)!

  • 19.28, or you might be on the wrong train.

  • That's the one

  • think I left my mitts on the train. Give me a shout if anyone picked them up, if not I can recommend Argos cycling gloves, fiver a pair, so long as your hands aren't too big.

  • the guy with the beard and heavy steel langster has them matt (sorry don't know name)

  • Hairnetnic. Cool, thanks.

  • i am fucked. 68 miles on a tuesday night is stupid.

nice riding with you all, albeit briefly!

  • 85 for me. The solo ride home was trance-like. The bit before that was quite full-on, but this is what happens if you want to keep on top of a 78.9" gear. Too much like hard work, but makes a change from my trusty 69.6", I suppose.

Excellent misty light across the fields tonight. I was saying to Matt we probably had about 25% OGs out there, and the fixed to gears ratio was good too. How fucking retro. Retro and excellent.

  • Did anyone else plough into the gravel just before the little rise up into Widford on the way back? It was like riding along the fucking beach.

  • ^ yes. Took me a few seconds to figure out what was happening as my front wheel got very suddenly sucked into the quagmire. "oh my god, what if it's quicksand?!"

  • Was a bit lively, glad it was on that side of the road, wouldn't have fancied hitting it flat out on the decent.

  • Super duper, that was a blast, a blast from the past, some lovely old faces out there tonight and some new but nicely aging ones too.
Big thanks to Matt and Des for keeping us together its much appreciated.

You know your late back when you start passing kebab shops on the way home and they are closed....

  • Did anyone else plough into the gravel just before the little rise up into Widford on the way back?

Yes. It was at this precise point that I gave up trying to track you down.

I was grateful I didnt crash, but thought if I was riding like such a spaz as to hit that, there was no way I was going to peg you back.

    beast effort by the way.

  • You know your late back when you start passing kebab shops on the way home and they are closed....

I missed kebab kid by 5 mins.

    gutted.

fortunately the 5 min weren't entirely wasted - they were spent picking up beers from a late night nisa opposite kings cross.

  • nice pootle home with Rod M, Puple MJ and Will. cheers for the route finding.

great choice for tonight Des. That was as good as TNRC can be. And that's pretty damn classy. The stretch through the top end around Clavering was a wheelman's wet dream.

    aherm. solid night's work.

  • Thanks. Once all the heavy breathing and bright lights were out of sight and sound behind me, I just settled in for the rest of the way, but it was by the quicksand that I suddenly wished I had a 16t or 17t on the back rather than a 15t for the remaining drag through and beyond Hunsdon.

There was quite a lot of mental driving from people between Woodford and Shoreditch last night - I think I hit it at just the wrong point of chucking out time. It generally made me tense up more than I'd have liked, exacerbated by the increasingly loud clicky cracky noise coming from near my BB. Having looked into it this morning, both my pedals were starting to loosen off. Same thing happened on another bike recently. You ride them through freezing cold temps and all is well, and then suddenly there's a warm spell, various bits of metal expand, and everything starts to fall apart; which is similar to how I react to warmer weather.

Yes - rear end of the bike threatened to leave me briefly, then everything was normal again.

Well that was lovely - thanks Des and everyone.

    Some photos:

  • all the heavy breathing and bright lights

    Ooof!

  • I can't really imagine having much more fun on more spectacular summer evening. I'm not sure riding gets much more fun than that. Good chat, great roads and a good dash at the end. 10 out of 10.

^ I swear that's my own photo and not a repost...

I thought it was quite pacey last night, and it was.

Seventy fixed miles yesterday - not bad for a Tuesday.

  • ^^ that's a lovely pic.

  • Looks like I missed a blinder! Well done folks.

  • ^^yeah, it captures the light perfectly. Always a lottery with exposure on camera phones.

Here are a few little requests:

    • remember to put electrical tape over bright rear lights to diffuse them, or run them on a low/steady setting (if there is one), or point them down; or buy something cheap and modest for group rides.

    • if there's a white line in the middle of road, stay on the left of it, unless doing a very swift and predictable overtaking manoeuvre.

    • there's no need to shout 'car up' on a road with a white line, unless the car's on the wrong side of it (or unless you're aware of riding partners on the wrong side of it, which would be a bit annoying).

    Thanks!

I have retinal burn from the light on the back of your helmet.

and anal burn from being dropped going through the temp traffic lights on that mild incline.

    true story.
