  • It hurts my neck and and it hurts my bits, my last frame fitted better and I had none of these problems on it.

  • You know what to do.

Take a photo with you sitting on the bike.

  • TRI tweak - inline or reverse set-back (set-front). Aim for tip of saddle over BB. Aka UCI legal track sprint setup and very common on the track.

  • I have a similar problem FYI - 5'11" and I ride a 54.5 effective top tube - however, over the last year I've moved from having quite a stack of spacers and a 100mm stem, to an negative rise stem and a 120mm - just through stretching, building up lower back muscle and gradually adjusting my position on the bike.

  • it seems like your hips must be rolled backwards (especially with that saddle position) - which will make the reach seem much longer and curve your spine. Really you want them pointed forward so that you can ride with a straight back, but you will need to do some work on your lower back, and riding with a bag is probably out too.
In short, tip your saddle down and move it back.

  • Yeah, but frankly - if you are 6' you are riding a frame that is much too big for you anyway - something is very wrong here

Read the rest of the thread, long legs and a short body.

When I get home I will.

The need to do these things shows the frame doesn't fit, I can have a frame that fits made if I sell this for what I payed and have around £150 left over.

Not saying it's impossible just far from ideal, wouldn't you rather a fitting frame?

  • when you take the photo, remember to have the camera facing leg stretched to reach the pedal at its lowest position

    if this makes sense

  • It does and I will.

  • When sat on the saddle, with the back of your feet on the pedals, it should be straight, so when you clipped in, it'll be a little bit bent to prevent your hips from rocking sideway.

  • a lot of people here talk about T-Rex body shape, but looking at their bike setups - 99% of them either:
    a) have very poor position on the bike
    b) have poor flexibility
    c) Don't know what they are talking about!

I hear what you are saying re: frame fit, but honestly - you would have to have cartoon body shape for it not to work at all. I'm talking 80% legs.

You're giving yourself a mountain to climb with your choice of bars - drops without hoods are pretty difficult to make comfortable as it's hard to find good hand positions on the tops anywhere except the flattest point - when you really want them where the hoods would be.

If I were you I would stick a set of risers on it and ride it like that until you can manage that bit more reach and get your hips in the right place. Or possibly bullhorns.
You are doing the right thing by going to see a bike fitter though.

  • I do have a cartoon body though :(

I could fit risers I guess but not too keen, my other build was lovely with the hoodless drops, a 100mm stem and regular seatpost.

  • Riser/flat bar work well if the top tube is too long, i.e. 54cm with drop and hood, or 57cm with flat bar (for me).

Just stick it on, and worry about it till you're old enough to stop growing.

  • Find the geometry of your old build and copy paste the goat.

I've done so, just wish to make it a little taller.

I'm just looking for sown thing comfy enough for long rides and that won't kill me at the track with deeper drops.

  • Flipping the stem for comfort and negative-flip for track use, should get you pretty far.

  • Yup that's true.

  • It's really odd though...
Last week everyone was saying to sell it and get a frame that fits but now when I say in doing that everyone tries to stop me...

    Forum Y u so silly :)

  • Everyone was pulling your chain, but ulimately if you spend that much money on it, best try and get fitted properly first.

Plus you can ride long ride with flat bar, no reason why not, saw a couple audaxes with flat bar hybrid on a 300k.

  • I know I won't be happy with a flat bar for a couple of reasons.

To be fair I just want a bike to make me smile like my last one did.

  • I'm sure you all have one :)

    JB has the Panasonic
    Dom has that lovely bianchi
    TM has that condor

  • To be fair I just want a bike to make me smile like my last one did.

Which is entirely possible if you just ignore how ugly it might look just for that comfort.

  • Well looks play a small part.
So does being able to get down in the drop, have it handle like it should and not feel as if it doesn't fit and I'm making compromises.

  • JB is selling his panasonic, and TM wanted to sell his condor twice.
    so much for the smileys

  • :o
