  • Did you all enjoy that Easter-ley? Haw haw haw..

  • Cut through it like hot knives through butter.

  • You should try chamois creme..

  • Whatever's to hand Hippy. No names mind!

  • Oh yeah, someone was riding a fully awesome Land Shark w/ silver SRAM Rival, Tune hubs and stuff. Should have got a picture.

  • Yeah we noted that. Hela paint job! Some quality hardware on show for a snowy day. Think I officially had the cheapest bike there by quite a distance.

  • So I quite liked that sportive lark - anyone got any pointers/top tips for other similar events in the same price bracket?

A cursory glance on the British Cycling website seems to be throwing up £25 as average price - not really sure what can justify that kind of price tag to pay to ride my bike : /

Evans Ride It events are cheap(ish) and cheerful, if you can stomach it.

  • ^ I was considering the Hatfield one last year but it ended up being a horrible day and I would have been doing it solo. Might give it a go this year.

  • £15 seems a bit more reasonable to me, for what you get for the Evans ride...am away for the Hatfield one, annoying!

Riding to the seaside that weekend - for free so not so annoying!

  • I'm doing the woking MTB off-road one on Saturday - need to ask them if I can ride a CX bike; my cross country bike is still in bits on the floor.

But yeah, seem like good value. The Biggin Hill one could be fun, but that's late in the year.

There's always the Rapha cafe rides on Sat am if you want some easy, no commitment medium distance riding at a sensible pace.

  • It's all relative - agree that some may find them too sedate.

Maybe some of the less extreme audaxes? I did the Watership Down one with Bothwell and it had a similar sort of vibe (though with more winter tyres and handlebar bags. Oh, and a recumbent tandem).

  • My mind was wandering towards Audaxes - I kinda like the orienteering aspect! To the audax thread!

  • don't know why I enjoyed 100k in that wind, was warm enough though. didn't bother to look at my watch before i set off so don't know my time - "the generator's down" was told as I finished. Some poor bugger was apparently going to do it all manually! Anyone know how many riders there were?

  • ^you looked to be enjoying yourself doing 200 rpm down grange hill! Nearly got a bit sketchy as we all piled into that turn

  • ^ yep indeed i was well cought up in my sewing machine mode and didnt notice the turn till almost too late
    wasnt it Manor Rd though?

anyone know if the timings will be published?

  • they were last year. usually take about a week to sort through them electronically, a little longer if it's by hand I assume.

I think last year they did a group email to let people know when it was up on the website.

  • Yeah, they put a spreadsheet of the times up online.

  • ^ "we're gonna need a bigger page, that Conker bloke's fallen off the end"

  • ^you looked to be enjoying yourself doing 200 rpm down grange hill! Nearly got a bit sketchy as we all piled into that turn

I nearly came a cropper there too, taking that corner far too wide. Ace descent though!

  • Think this might have been where i gleefully overtook Bigpaintbrush only to be startled by an oncoming car.

  • just looked up my time on http://www.londonphoenix.co.uk/?p=2798
dissappointing but as a consollation, there's a fellow Conway who was slower than me:
    Ian Conway 112km 09:10:51 14:06:00 04:55:09
    Stephen Conway 112km 09:38:30 16:09:00 06:30:30

can't see the "fastest times" listed seperately, but did spot:
    Daniel Cuthbert 112km 08:57:22 10:49:25 01:52:03
I can't get my brain to work at this hour of the night, but it looks like the fella must have had a motor onboard (or be a pro?)
    112km in 112mins = 1km/min = 37.5mph?
