ah right ok will have to find that one cheers.
(i'm actually riding for my mrs as she got a place and can't ride). suspect i'll be way out the back which is unfortunate as i'd like to be in one of the groups at the front to be honest. -

I am now getting the fear with this, I completed this last year with a little training, but have done this with less this year, was hoping to get closer to 5hours 30mins, but don't think this is possible.
Had to take a breather on Leith Hill last year but determined not to this year!
I'm starting at 6.22, if anyone fancies saying hi, or wants to ride part of the way in company I'd be happy to do so.
Oh and if anyone feels like being generous and wants to support the London Wildlife Trust please visit

any amount would be appreciated.
Thanks

Fking bad news though. Start time 8.02. Great. I'll be right at the back. No chance to get in with a good group. We shall see!

Anyone got a GPX file for this year's route?
-
• #956
Don't think you need it considering that the road is closed.

Just for knowing distances and what's coming up. Site only has a (vague) pdf.
Edit: rwgps attempt based on someone else's with hints from the PDF. Not sure on Leatherhead to Oxshott but can't be toooo far off.

All this talk of start times and waves is no help at all. Maybe people can stipulate what clobber they're wearing, and then some sort of Masonic type signal can be contrived to aid recognition within the peloton.
I'll be modelling myself on Jalabert, wearing this very same jersey:

The coded signal could be something like this:

Now l'm leaning towards doing this fixed. Such fun on the fixed bike today!
It was pretty flat though.

Box and leaf hill, YAL... Just saying.
-

I wouldn't like to do 11pc fixed, personally.
I'm probably going to wear dutifully the ActionAid jersey I've been sent, although I'd much rather wear one of my torm jerseys.

It arrived! Look out for us on this ...
Looks a beauty!
We're about dialled in on our new tandem - real life has stopped us getting any long rides on it, but I think we're comfy enough to haul ourselves around 100 miles.
Concessions to speed for this event are 28mm tyres and removed the front pannier rack. Can't be arsed with removing mudguards and rear rack etc.

Think I'm going to get all the racks and mudguards off (depending on the weather forecast!) ... Thinking of changing tyres....I've got some 28 gatorskins kicking around thatll probably be better than the Marathon Duremes on there now....

I'll be doing it solo after my training and ride partner was hospitalised over the weekend with some very worrying seizure/brain problem thing, so please do say hello.

Erm, Blackwall Tunnel?
Tho you won't need it, it could be useful to know when the hills are coming up. Newlands at 46 mile in, Leith at 56 and Box at 66. Leith is the only one worth worrying about, just remember not to go too soon, when it seems to flatten off after the farmhouse on the left it's a false summit there is plenty more climbing as it kicks up again.
This was last year's route, http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2136502
the PDF on the site will indicate how much it's changed. It is perfectly doable fixed, whether it will be fun is a different matter. The problem won't be going up the hills (you'll certainly have no problems with them Dan) the bit you'll regret is the ride back. Everyone you overtook on the hills will be whizzing past you on all the long flats and gradual descents. They'll be coming past you down the Leatherhead bypass at 40mph, freewheels singing their mocking song as you spin like a fool, legs screaming for a break and arse feeling like a particularly careless carpenter has been sandpapering it for the last 3 hours. In fact the little hill at Wimbledon that everyone else curses will come as sweet relief as you finally get a chance to put some power through your legs and lift your arse off the saddle.

I've dumped every magazine they sent me straight in the recycling- was this a mistake, and they hid the paperwork I'll need to collect my number from Excel in the mag?
