  • Same here (did not donate but got an email thanking me for doing so), but then received another email saying "IGNORE THE PREVIOUS ONE, WE FUCKED UP".

  • I got in, but my pal didn't. Was thinking of giving up my spot, but going to give it a shot now on my own regardless. I'm so out of shape from the last year that I reckon I'll struggle to stay in the allotted time.

I don't remember the last time I went up any hill on a bike. Are those hills comparable to Ditchling beacon?

  • Easier. If you can do Ditchling, you'll manage Leith and Box no probs.

  • You will be fine, my wife barely trained at all last year, did a few 50-60 mile rides and commuting and got round well within time. With the road closures you will be surprised how quickly it moves everything along. As @TTM says if you are expecting Ditchling, you will be fine with Box and Leith.

  • Thank fuck for that! I was coming here to vent my spleen about how sneaky the "yes I am happy to donate" process must have been, without me realising. I think I will celebrate by donating some old items to a local charity shop, and spending some money on alcohol and chocolate.

  • Found the email today, not magazine as I've moved; in. Yaaay!

    Predicted time... 4.40.

    Fuck.

  • Ha well I always get to that last bit at ditchling where it flattens out a bit and there's a small clearing, and then I ease off the pedals thinking I'm at the peak. Then it ramps up again and I crack. I swear I've done that like four times. It must be something subconscious where my legs say, "right, that's enough, fuck off now".

Might take a spin on last year's route in advance of this year and see what it's like.

  • Built for twenty thousand nodders.

  • Fourth time unlucky! I practically live on the start line too. Cunts!

  • Registered for a charity place with the air ambulance. Quite looking forward to it, but still got a lot of fundraising to do...

  • Where does it tell you your predicted time? Can't find it in the e-mail they sent me. Although I did do it last year, so maybe they just take that time.

  • It's what I signed up with :( . May have been a tiny bit optimistic.

  • Does it tell you that anywhere, or did you save a copy of what you put?

Now I'm wondering what I said...

  • Just a reminder that you have to pay up by tomorrow 5pm (I think) to get your place. I almost forgot.

  • Hey?? I think I payed when I registered, no??

  • Quite possibly. You get the option to pay during registration or pay only if successful. I did the latter, so I have to pay by tomorrow to secure my place. Sorry to panic you, double check your magazine thing, but I'm sure you are fine.

  • I appear to have a tandem space, how hilarious.

  • If I see you zoom past me I am to hook on and ask you and your mrs to tow me to the finishing line ;)

  • Me (we!) as well.

Rode in 2014 on the tandem. Interesting experience.

I'm destined to never ride the event solo as I only appear to be able to get a place via my wife always getting a place and then good luck in the tandem ballot!

  • Already booked in couple therapy for the day after

  • Just signed up for a charity place with Shelter...
