    I think I figured out what's wrong. I can't believe I didn't notice this before. She went deaf :S

"In January, she just fell over. This was on a sunday evening. I took her to the emergency vet, who diagnosed an inner ear infection. I had to give her antibiotics for 14 days."

That might have caused it I assume. It's weird because she still meows when she sees me. She just doesn't respond. I tried to wake her up this morning because I put down wet food which she loves. She normally runs towards me when she hears the sound of the packaging opening. She didn't do that this time. I ended up shouting just to see if she would wake up. She didn't. I tried youtube video's of angry cats after she woke up. no response.

    :(

  • Awww no, but at least you have something to work with and to adapt too. poor kitty.

  • This makes me emotional - hope you can both adapt soon and behaviour gets back to normal.

  • I think the problem isn't that she doesn't want to get petted or something, she just doesn't know I'm home.

A few hours ago, she walked upstairs, jumped on my lap again, slept like a baby for an hour (including snoring, meowing, moving legs, like she always does when she's sleeping very deep). She just doesn't hear me, so she doesn't know I'm around.

She still makes noises when she sees me, like she always does. When she sees me, she makes a small noise to let me know she's there. Really useful at night when the lights are off. I always pet her when she makes the noise.

  • I had a deaf cat, we had to tap the floor to get him to come to us as he could feel the vibrations

Today I hung out with Olly the Brockley cat. You only stroke him on his terms.

and thats different to other cats how?
    ;)

  • Well with Olly there is usually blood if you go near him. He's known for his belligerence. Thankfully today I was allowed to touch him for a few seconds.

  • I'm a firm believer that cats should be allowed outside if they want, it's just the way I was brought up around them and living in the country means there are less risks for him when he's out. In winter it was a case of he was sat on the step waiting to be in at 7 when I let the dog out before work. It's summer now, I get the song of his people at 5am until I let the little shit in. At which point he walks upstairs harasses the dog then scratches at the door to be out. My neighbours have commented on how cute he is. If only they knew he's an asshole.

  • well, in the country that's a great option. I moved from a village to a city, but I still don't let my cat go outside. I just think it's too dangerous for a cat to be around cars. Also, she's too sweet. Someone might take her. She's my cat. I want her to sleep on my chest, I want her to sleep on my bed and be able to hug her at all times.

  • Look at that adorable face!

  • There was a robin outside my flat chirping constantly all day yesterday.

Turns out it's because my cat had murdered his entire family and left them on the ground by my front door.

Guess that would piss you off.

  • So my cat eats porridge, drinks tea, falls asleep in the sink and has a toy snake he likes to shag. Bullingdon club member in a previous life.

  • the snake looks fairly traumatised.

  • nasty - trip to the vets?

  • On the subject of cats the guy who sets the Times crossword is clearly being terrorised

  • I once made the mistake of leaving the removable fur bit from a parka laying around before the cat was neutered.

  • A final pic of Batcat from our holiday.

She never did reveal her true identity....
