Mogget got hit by a car this evening. Heard the cat flap go then heard him doing his I'm going to throw up/I've caught a mouse miaow.
Found him sitting in the spare room looking sorry for himself and crying. He had grubby paws and more sticks and crud stuck to his fur than usual.
Made him walk into the living and noticed his back end wasn't right and he had lost a couple of claws.
I panicked and phoned the emergency vet and booked an Uber. Put him in the carrier (which was easier than usual - more worrying) and got in the car.
He then proceeded to shit himself so I was hoping the driver wouldn't throw us out. I contemplated pretending to fart so we could open the windows but thankfully the driver didn't notice or was too polite.
We got to the vet and straight in for a consultation. More shitting. When the vet took the thermometer out it was like he was deflating.
The vet seemed less and less concerned so I was starting to relax.
While we were in, an extremely distraught girl came in with a very obviously dead dog and the guy who ran the poor thing over details redacted. After that I was feeling very lucky indeed.
He was xrayed and given some industrial pain killers and antibiotics along with some stuff to help his stomach.
No breaks, diaphram and bladder look OK. Bowels appear to work (thanks Mogs) so just need to check in with the regular vet tomorrow for more pain killers and antibiotics.
Lesson learned - keep your insurance up to date. Thank fuck it was payday.
He is tripping balls right now. All wide eyed and just looking around him.

He managed to clamber under the sofa in the night, which is a squeeze, so he's opened up the cut on his paw. Looking very uncomfortable and is having trouble finding a good way to sit/lie. Got an appointment at 10:45 in Herne Hill. Right now he's cleaning his arse. Took him about 10min to work out how to lift his leg.

Poor thing, heal up soon Mog

Higgs has been over-grooming herself, this leads to her arse becoming inflamed, which means she can't clean herself as effectively as she needs to.
She therefore scoots round in circles on the carpet, drawing lines/arcs.
I took her to the vet who basically shrugged and said "dunno mate".
How do I fix this?

Shave all the fur around her arse? Might make her feel like there is less to groom?
-
• #5093
Took him a couple of goes but hes managed to get up onto my foot stool. Probably leaving a trail of blood and shit but the blanket can be washed. I don't think he's had any more diarhhea since he emptied himself at the vets but he's not the cleanest right now.

Oh no, hope Mogget makes a full recovery!

The vet could check to make sure she doesn't have any allergies which could be prompting overgrooming, I assume she doesn't have a flea problem. She could be overgrooming due to stress, have you tried a feliway defuser? Jackson Galaxy recommends play therapy to help deal with stress as well, and that could help if she is also overgrooming due to boredom.

Man, that sounds so scary. Glad to hear he's making a recovery.
Ours has started going out since moving to a place with a garden and cars are obviously the main worry.
He keeps getting in to very dramatic sounding fights that we can only hear a few gardens away with other cats though - he's the new kid on the block so the local felines don't recognise his territory yet.Are cat fights mostly shouting matches and stand-offs? It sounds like they're killing each other but there's not a scratch to be seen when he comes back, other than scuffs on his pads from climbing on people's sheds.
