she is only 2, what I forgot to mention is that she has been meowing endlessly very early in the morning for a min or so, usually mid morning, then if I call "Patch" in the bedroom (on my day off I do love my bed...) she would come in, stand by the door and looks at me... no she doesn't want attention / play, she just stands there... maybe she is just weird...

Mine sometimes starts meowing incessantly in some random room and if I go to investigate, I usually find her sat by a cupboard facing it and looking up at me with some guilty look on her face.
I just leave her to it. Or sometimes Ill just yell shhhhhhhhh and she will go quiet.

One of ours will only meow if he's registering a complaint about food/water/litter tray/weather, whereas the other one quite often tunes up for no obvious reason. We meow back at him, but this doesn't seem to be the response he's after.

Sometimes when I meow back to Patch, she gives me a funny look and boyfriend says maybe I am swearing at her in cat's meow... Lol
Her endless meowing only started few days back and initially I thought she found a spider or sth... But no... As for her supplies, they are all clean and filled at the usual times... Hummm...
I just had a dream with Patch being chased by other cats and she was the smallest among them... not the first time I have had 'negative' abt Patch... Last time I woke up in tears because I was giving her away to a cousin for no reasons... :-(

I have one cat that never makes a sound and another that never ever shuts up, he's the most vocal cat I've ever met.

Dogs are great too. Not all are noisy/excited/rough.
My cats are about 10x more vocal than mum's dog and more excited about most things in life, except maybe food. They/we are all insane around that.

Some cats are 'chatty' live with it.

True, Lenny used to come in from his nocturnal wonderings, meow in a non-complaintive way for a bit and then wonder off. I figure he was just telling us that evening's cat gossip.

That is the mistake, Patch is giving you a funny look because you can't meow, she can understand English and you try talk to her in meow.

I am training her to understand Chinese too, but she seems to prefer English... oh well...

I regularly have meow conversations with the Wolf.
Sometimes he'll come in the cat flap and we might be in bed or upstairs and I will hear a plaintive 'I'm here - where the fuck are you?' 'Meow', when I meow back - I get another meow, just slightly closer - eventually he'll appear.
He also does mini meow chirps to say hello, or to get my attention. The wolf and I have always meowed at each other, ever since his meowing at the back of the house allowed me to find him and rescue him off of our garage roof. MOC often calls him the MeowMachine.

My cat meows furiously and continuously every time I close the khazi door. She will run from wherever she is in the house whenever I (and no-one else) is in there.
And is virtually silent at all other times.
How old is Patch? It could just be an age thing. As cats get older they sometimes want reassurance.
My cat sits for ages and then will give one meow as if he is lonely and wants someone to talk to. Apparently cats do this a lot as they get older and get more clingy too.
