One of ours (male 8 years) had become anxious during the evening and would keep looking out onto the street from two different windows in the living room.
I think this behaviour was due to numerous other cats in the area.By chance I then left an empty box in the living room and he was drawn to this and would rest in the box in between watching the street and it seems to have now broken the cycle of his anxious behaviour.
He now spends a lot of the evening in the box.

Celeste update! After spending a lot of time hiding under the sofa, coming out to eat or to hiss at me (who d'ya think is feeding you, you wench?!), yesterday she decided that I'm not that bad after all and spent the day getting head scritches and lying against my leg. Hopefully it's because she likes me rather than because she's cold, but we'll see what happens when my air con unit (the only source of heat) gets fixed.

My boyfriend's elderly cat, Thomas, died last night. I've been tasked with finding out how we get his body cremated (a lot of people here would just throw the body in the trash) and I'm sitting at my desk sobbing my eyes out while I contact pet crematoria. RIP Thomas, you were an absolute dude.

Thanks everyone. Thomas had a great and very long life, and died quickly and he wasn't alone. He wasn't much of a lap cat throughout his life but in the last few weeks he was keen to sleep cuddled up on me, so I hope that he knew that he was very much loved.
I have learnt a worrying amount about pet cremation in China over the last 24 hours.

@Stonehedge sorry I missed your kind offer of the flea treatment for my cat. Wasn't being rude just didn't see it.

I realised today that it was 10 years ago this weekend I drove from Walthamstow to Saltash to collect a 23 month old Maine Coon who had been returned to her breeder by one half of the couple who had bought her as a kitten, and had split up and he didn’t want to be stuck with her. She was damaged and very shy and reclusive, but over the years she’s grown into the the most loving and gentle giant imaginable. She helped me get over an incredibly traumatic time in my life, and nearly died in that time herself, but we both came through it all, and I met a wonderful woman who became almost as important to me. And she knows that, and she’s cool with it. I owe my life to this cat, and that no exaggeration. Love you, you big floofy monster xx

Awww... very sweet! I am glad you are both happy! But! Did I read your message correctly that your partner is happy not being the most important woman in your life? 🤣 she surely sounds lovely! As do you!
May you all have many more happy years together! 🥰

Sowed some seeds but not quite enough to fill the heated propagator. Someone has decided to warm themselves on the rest of it.

Jaffa chose us, I've never met a more chilled cat. He lets us use him as a cushion. (Not pictured: The loud purrs throughout).
