  • I think I'm gonna buy Murts's old Kayfun Lite/Dingo set-up... :)

This would be a very good thing to do, especially if the Dingo comes with an 18650 battery tube. Kayfun is hard to beat.

  • What's the opinions on the best 'plug and play' vaper out there.

I'm not technically gifted so all the robocock units are a bit beyond me. Looking for something that is hassle and maintenance free but gives decent vape and draw

  • What's your budget? If you have more to spend, I guess it's a Vamo. If not, it's going to be a variable voltage ego style battery. Then choose a clearo. TS and Apollo have both tried some nice clearos recently.

This is supposed to be very good:

But you will have to rewick the cotton yourself. Probably not very difficult (you just roll a bit of cotton wool ball and pull it through the coil), but it's not entirely plug and play.

  • And this is how to replace the wick:

Essentially the same as what TS arrived at, except he built his own microcoil.

  • Despite Joe moving on to bigger and better things, i'm still happy with this setup he tried:

    No probz, gorgeous...

    Mini Davide Glassomiser...

    Smoktech Winder 1300mah battery...

Buy a few extra coil heads when you get the glassomiser, you'll save on postage... Each head only lasts about a fortnight... You may as well get a needle bottle too...

  • ^ That still works really well for me but the Vamo takes it to the next level... The Winder's gonna be my going-out-further-than-Le-Reej and out on the bike battery...

Rebuilding your own EvoD coils is where it's at with those things, especially when you're using thick juice... They don't seem to like it...

It doesn't, but I'll probably buy one anyway...

This is easy, Wayne... I'll help you with a few microcoil builds if you like then it's just a case of plucking out the old cotton and putting in the new stuff, easy peasy... I'd recommend a Vamo, it gets a bit spendier with batteries/charger etc but well worth it IMO...

  • @Laner: Have you tried rebuilding your coil heads yet? Microcoil and cotton wool is awesome, way better than the factory jobbies...

    Apologies for repeating myself...

Nah, still just using pre-builts.... which are cheap enough to not worry me at the moment.

There's apparently a Vape shop near my flat here in Munich so i might go check out if they've got some microcoil and give it a try.

  • I might even build you a couple and send them over...

  • <3

  • cheers Joe - I'll put a list of what I'm thinking of getting up lunchtime and you and Buttahs can check I've not forgotten anything - Then I'll buy ya a pint at the reej and get a tutorial

  • what to buy for solid hardwearing kit, where for very fast delivery?

  • ignore that, gone for the nature vape kit.

    As you were....

Total n00b, been so bamboozled by this thread and all the jargon. Just bought the naturevape starter kit. Will let you know how i get on.

The scottish guy in the video answered all my n00b questions.

  • Hey Ben, reckon I'll be able to get away with building my Kayfun up with .2mm Kanthal and doubled over 2mm silica wick? Internet suggests it's totally OK, wanted to check with the oracle first tho'... ;)

I need to get some thicker wire and wick next week...

  • You got the Kayfun from Murts? Did you also get the mech mod? Is it still 18350 only?

In terms of building the Kayfun with silica, check out the Navy Nest build on YouTube. I haven't tried it, but it's supposed to be a really nice build.

I reckon 3 or 4 wraps of 0.2 around doubled 2mm silica will be fine. The key to Kayfuns is to avoid blocking the juice flow channels. Get that right and pretty much any build will work. Also, be careful of overfilling. It's a pressure feed system, so inhaling draws liquid into the chaber, through the wicks and up the chimney. If you leave it really full lying down with one channel in liquid and the other in air, it could flood. It doesn't happen often, but you will start to notice it after a few weeks and it took me ages to work out why. If you put it down flat, try to do it so the air hole is facing directly upwards. If it's not flat it doesn't matter - it won't flood.

If you have a mech mod now and can get the 18650 tubes, your batteries should be able to handle down to about 0.6 ohms safely. I've found the rip trippers double barrel build (on YouTube) to be a light and day change from normal microcoil setups. I reckon you will need to 2 x 8 wrap microcoils with 0.32mm kanthal around a 1mm drill bit to hit 0.6 ohms. Make sure none of the kanthal is touching the deck or you might get a short. Here's mine:

Get some 0.32mm kanthal at the very least if you are going 18650 mech mod microcoils on the kayfun. Some 0.28mm, some 0.8 x 0.1 ribbon and some 0.6 x 0.1 ribbon would also be useful at some point. Especially as the cost of all of the options in 10m reels probably comes to less than a tenner.

If you haven't got the RSST humming yet, I'd give 2mm 7x19 rope with a 2mm ekowool sleeve and ribbon wire wraps a shot. The ekowool prevents any problems with hotspots or shorts and it will give you about a 90% idea of what it is capable of. The last 10% involves a top cap reducer I reckon. It's worth that tenner, but you might decide Kayfun is the way forward and give up on genesis like a lot of people have. I think I might have given up too.

  • Just bought the naturevape starter kit.

Supposed to be awesome, but I've never tried it. The scottish guy seems to know what he's talking about in my opinion. Interested to hear what you think!

  • NatureVape kit arrived today.

Was slightly disappointed by the size of having seen TS's in the flesh- though probably not the last time his 'proportions' blow mine out of the water.

Getting used to working the dial for quantity of vapour/taste but so far seems good. The difference between it and the 10motives thingy is as expected and is a great improvement to the experience.

What are the indicators that mean the cotton wool wick needs replacing? Or do I just need to visually inspect it when refilling?

  • You'll just taste when it needs replacing

  • the OG RoboCockā„¢ is still going strong after nearly 7 months of deleicious service, and as a result i know about as much about the vagaries of vaping now as i did then, which is nothing.

    Am i doing it wrong?

  • Nice one, Oli!

I'd change the wick when vapour production tails off or it starts tasting funky...

Tried to build the Kayfun Lite today and flooded the airhole, I think I know what i did wrong so gonna try again tomorrow... Can't face another fail today...

I bought some more Kanthal and ribbon today as per your suggestion, Ben... Will let you know how I get on...
