Sounds good. Had thought about offering my 16-hole Shamals but they are 8-speed
-

@NorthLondonLight - my favorite are the 16-hole 8-speeds. Someone on here sent a good set of photos of how they fitted a 9-speed freehub. PM if interested in parting

Go a few more bits for the build, got some Vento 16 HPW off the bay.
I'm concerned though as when I got them 2 of the rear driveside spokes have a slight kink in them - as though they've been hit by the derailleur or something like. How worried should I be? Should I send them back? Also, I got a crankset as a bit of a bargain (still in the box).
And a saddle.

Just take the 'http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8110/8485257743_a72b2ccfb4_b.jpg' bit from each link and whack it in the img thing.

This is going to end up good I reckon

If you decide to get alloy levers, I might be interested in the carbon ones.

Just picked up the frame yesterday, it's in really nice condition. My favourite bit of the frame is the seat cluster.
The seatpost clamp looks like it's been overtightened round the fastback stays. A 27.0mm seatpost I had goes in a bit too easily with the clamp bolt removed, but a 27.2mm doesn't really go in at all. The slot between the two halves of the clamp is definitely narrower at the top than the bottom. Any ideas what to do? Should I try and gently prise it back?

I had a similar situation with a steel frame - Prise it open enough to get a battered 27.2 down - find something to wedge between/apart the two 'ears' to push them back out and leave it to cold-set for a few days.

Cheers for that. I'll give that a try, sounds like it'll work easily

I've fitted the bottom bracket, one of these:
And I had a LBS fit the headset. Really annoyed that the chipped the paint in a couple of small places. I was wondering if I should've done it myself and now I wish I had cos then I'd only have myself to blame if it got chipped.
Wheels are stupidly tight trying to get some old Vittoria tyres on, but this is what I've got so far:
Saddle's just fitted for the photo - turns out the seat clamp problem wasn't one at all - it was a seatpost problem. The seatpost I had was badly scored below the insertion line and someone previously had tried to hammer flat the high points but they've not done a good job. So another post I had fitted fine.I'm thinking black Fizik bar tape and blue jagwire cable housing. Is coloured cable housing controversial?! I want some colour there.
Can't decide on tyres. Either Veloflex gumwalls or some Contis for a bit better puncture protection

I've found using thumbs gets on tyres I always struggled to get on with levers, just gotta keep pushing and it'll pop on...

Cheers for the advice TM.
What do you think about compact drops on this? Soma Highway 1s in silver could look good? Or should I stick to classic drops? -
• #20
Compact drops all day everyday, so much more comfortable.
-

OK serious question then - what colour cables should I go for? White, black or blue to go with the SOMEC logos?

Fitted the brakes after waiting for the right length nut to come from the Bay.
Waiting on an order of new tyres and cables. Can't decide if cinelli caleido tape would be a good idea? Or perhaps just straight Fizik microtex.

really love this so far...such a nice frame. i'm doing something similar with an 80s merckx, looking forward to seeing how this turns out
Just bought a pearl white SOMEC off the forum, which I'm going to be building up with some Campagnolo bits.
The for sale thread is here: https://www.lfgss.com/thread99563.html#post3355344
I haven't got my hands on it yet, it's at my sisters house til the weekend, so here's a photo of it from Numicc.

I'm going to be going a bit modern on this frame, hope no one's too offended. Got some of the pieces already, but not a complete setup.
I've got a Campagnolo Record 10 shifters, front and rear derailleurs:

I'm thinking about getting alloy levers for the ergos to make it a bit less carbon...
Campagnolo Record double pivot brakes

Got a lovely C-Record aero headset to go on - I'm hoping that there's enough steerer to fit it, haven't been able to check yet. It looks like this:
http://www.velocipede.co.uk/products/headsets/hdset_jpg/camp_record_10.jpg
Wheels - I've also got a NOS 36 hole Campagnolo front hub (might be Chorus) and a similar rear hub 9-speed from Bobbyw which he polished up really nicely for me. They're gonna go on some dark grey TB14s that I got from TF.
I've also been looking for a Shamal set for sunday best, but haven't found one yet, looking for 16 spoke really, I'm 6'3" and 90kg!
I've got a Cinelli XA stem and Campione Del Mondo bars, and a C-Record aero seatpost (the one without the Campagnolo shield).
I've got 10 speed chainrings which I'm planning to put on a C-Record crankset, but I haven't bought one yet. Also not decided on a saddle, saddle colour or bar tape colour yet. I'm wondering about a Rolls Due, a Cinelli Volare SLX would be perfect, but they seem to go for ridiculous money. Thoughts welcome, I'm thinking black saddle, black bartape (Fizik or maybe San Marco leather?), and either white or mid blue cables...
Anyway, that's it for now.
