  • Yes, indeed, one of many he did in the area. Should we devise an alternative to BtoB in which the challenge is to photograph your bike in front of a view that is portrayed in a famous painting?

  • I went for a walk that went over an old railway line this Sunday just past which would be a suitable location.

    Do it...

  • ...and then there's my favourite Pissarro London painting

  • Or maybe, now that Spring has sprung, a bike ride rather than a tagging game...

  • I went for a walk that went over an old railway line this Sunday just past which would be a suitable location.

That view (or close enough) has already been tagged.

  • new tag
    bridge/forest

    ??????

    .

  • Yes, that's the one. The view's changed a bit since 1871.

  • Apparently* South of Brockley station was open farmland into the 1930's. South East London has had a rather rapid change, really.

  • Nice map, showing the amazing chain of locks on the canal, about which my elder son (then aged 11) did a prize-winning research project. But we digress...

  • Just been told Vallance Road E2 is closed for resurfacing - not the end of the world but it means 2 pave sections knocked out - can anyone local verify how 'closed' it is please? Is it a case of a short dismount or can it still be ridden - albeit slowly?

It's a big road with pavements, can't see how they could close it to pedestrians so Looks like a dismount and walk to me. I'll take a look on my way home tonight.

  • ^^^ I have a map of Dulwich and Peckham from the 1880's that I can bring along tomorrow if anyone is interested. This does create the possibility that I don't do the ride and just sit about looking at maps all day, but hey, I'm better at maps than I am cycling.

  • Tomorrow is a day early anyway, hats. Southwark published a load of their historical maps online for easy access a while back, got a link buried away somewhere... but too much of a diversion.

  • That top one's by Camille Pissarro, isn't it?

Oh man, what have you been told about moderating your language?

  • ^^ Tomorrow, sunday, it's all the same to me.

  • ...and then there's my favourite Pissarro London painting

I don't know, there are other artists that pissarrover him, really.

There now. Road completely blocked, both pavements open. Cyclists dismount signs already up. It's like a flouro motorway through here though. A non stop precession of law breaking two wheeled fiends.

  • Signs

All those who said they would come out tomorrow evening can you please meet me at LMNH at 5:00 that will give us nearly two hours of daylight to put up the signs it would help me big time if you added your name below

  • Just driven up Fox Hill.

    :-(

Oh you love it Ru. Seriously a grimpeur of your class will have no problem!! It's briefly very steep near the top and the staggered brick wall makes the gradient look ridiculous but that's only for a few turns of the cranks

  • Anyone aiming to get there for 8:30? I feel I might be aiming a bit early to actually see anyone.

  • I can't make it in to town during the day to pick up signs as I'm babysitting, would it be okay if someone picked up signs for me to do? I live basically between mile 2 and 3 so signs at that end of the course would be best for me.
