  • Black isn't a colour

  • don't forget your 2mm BB spacer...

  • Nice combo, this will look goood/

  • BB is already using the spacers it came with as I'm running a Goldtec on the back with a Condor cog. That is also a 44/45mm chainline. My research suggests Paul hubs and EAI cogs will give me a 44mm chainline. Who cares about 42?

  • Rear hub just landed from stateside.

Great deal on this. Price matched by Jenson USA to some bike shop that don't deliver outside America and then only $20 postage with UPS. Managed to get through customs with no charges, so in total it was $127 (or £80 in real money). Only took 4 days to get here too.

  • Result! Bravo. Lovely hubz.

  • naiccc, matching front hub from elsewhere then?

  • ^^^ +1!
How do you price match on Jenson USA?

  • Result! Bravo. Lovely hubz.

Cheers mate. I decided against going for a cheaper hub set as I wanted something that I knew was going to last.

Yeah, got the front hub on the forum. Was looking for a spare bolt for it as it was missing when I bought it, but found I had a spare pair of bolts from Goldtec in my toolbox and they fit perfectly.

    ^^^ +1!

I clicked the price match button.

  • Rims should be with me by Monday or Tuesday. Then I'm going to order the spokes. Got a new saddle from eBay today. Need to source a black Thomson seat clamp. I'm guessing it's 34.9mm.

  • What spokes are you aiming for? DT Competition 2.0/1.8/2.0 or the DT Champion 2.0/2.0/2.0? I am also pretty sure that the silver spokes are way cheaper than the black ones. I would also pull the trigger on the prolock nipples (black) which have a sort of integrated loctite thingy in it. Had them built up my DA7600 to Mavic Open Pros and they did a fantastic job.

  • I'm probably going to go for the DT Champions in black and definitely the pro lock nipples. It's annoying that silver spokes are usually cheaper than black, but that's the price of HHSB I'm afraid.

  • has this been ridden yet?

  • Yes. Yes it has. I even took it out in the rain today and the chain got all the road grit in it and stuff. Needs a good clean later.

  • Update pic.

    That is all.

  • Ffffffffuuuuuuuu.

I just wanted to see what the EAI cog looked like sat on the hub, so I thought I'd put it on (not tighten it). Anyway, the cog got halfway down the threads when it became too tight to screw it down any further.

I've done some searching, but there are conflicting views about whether or not this is a major problem. I've read they don't work great with phil hubs, but can't find any info on them working (or not working) with Paul hubs.

I have a spare 16t cog knocking around and this spins on fine. I'm guessing it's some issue with the thread thickness on the EAI cog. Should I stick with it? Return it and get a replacement or use another manufacturer?

  • it's its nickelplating which makes it a bit too 'thick' for regular threads I believe..
if it was for different threads it wouldn't screw on at all.
    htfu.

  • Yeah, I deserve that HTFU. This hub is single sided though, so I don't wanna fuck it up. I've fired an email over to the guys at Paul too.

  • I would make triple certain before doing HTFUing....

Have you got another hub kicking about you don't care as much for? Poss a flipflop? Will thread onto a freewheel side as well innit.

  • true, actually - paul ppl should know for sure:)

  • do you knwo what rob, dont htfu just yet

For optimal performance, we recommend using the Phil Wood track cog. They are offered in both 1/8″ and 3/32″. Our specification for the threading is 1.370 x 24 tpi, but Phil Wood hubs will accommodate most high quality cogs. If, during installation, the cog jams or binds, STOP. Forcing a cog onto the hub will result in irreparable damage to the threads. As with any cog installation, lubricate both the cog and lockring threads. Some cog manufacturers are making cogs that are not ideal for use with Phil Wood hubs due to their thickness (which is generally a result of plating). For this reason, we do not recommend using Surly or Euro-Asia cogs with our track hubs. The additional thickness can result in stripping of the lockring and/or hub threads because there is not enough thread engagement. Please call us if you have additional questions.

thats what phil said, but can as well apply to both
I dont want to owe you a hub:(

  • Yeah, I've seen that statement from Phil. I'm just hoping it's different for the Paul hubs.
