Small diggage, sorry.
And it may be a dumb question, but are these cheaper alternatives to pitlocks any good?
I suspect the answer is obviously but you never know.
i've seen the Decathlon set for under a tenner and the trans x mentioned above.
Anyone any experience? -

pitlock are the one that work the best but are stupidly expensive IMO for what they are.
the cheaper trans x ones you can bodge a screwdriver in the end or something that'll grip whilst lossening the cones to release it, the same cannot be said about the pitlock where there is nothing to grip to, and the same can also be said of the pinhead skewers, which are more exposed that the pitlocks making them slighly less effective.

my old bike was kitted out with these and got nicked. not sure whether to be grateful or not that this probably meant very little use by mr theivingbastard...

Hi. I know there's been a few posts already about Pitlocks for solid axles - but I'm new to this forum and looking for some fresh advice from people who actually use them in their bikes already.
I am in the process of building a very beautiful fixed gear bike and wanted to put pitlocks on front and rear wheels (essentially the most expensive part of the part). So apparently I have to buy a special M10 Rohloff solid axle pitlock - but got confused by the reviews that it's only suitable with Rohloff axle/hub? Is this true? Have any of you fitted an M10 pitlock to an Ambrosio hub before?
I definitely don't want to carry two D-locks.
Also, I read that you can't really put them on rear wheels because of the horizontal drop-outs. Again, is this true?
Would appreciate any replies from people who use the solid axle pitlocks successfully - and that they will work on any axle/hub - not just a Rohloff? Also any links for best place to buy them. Thank you!

i have fitted a set of zefal lock 'n' roll skewer set to a rohloff we have built at Mercian.
bit of a pain in the arse when it comes to removing your wheel because you have to tip the bike upside down to undo the quick release, but saying that i tried my hardest to open them when the bike was the right way up and no joy!
also have fitted the pit locks and they are very good and neat too!

these would work as well....
London Fields Cycles sell the pitlocks...
Looks good! Thanks for the link. Sadly no price list yet and design is so new that no-one has tested it yet!

I can't remember why but for some reason pitlocks didn't work for me on the solid axle front wheel.
I think they only do M10s and most fronts are M9.
So instead I bought a pair of M9s (plus tool) from here:
http://www.seclock.co.uk/
(Buy two nuts and one tool, making sure that the tool fits both nuts.)Now a word of warning. The tool that you get has a limited depth to it.
This means that with a long axle (protruding beyond the fork) the tool won't be able to do up the nuts (it just sits on top of the axle nowhere near the nut!).
I had a choice: hacksaw off some axle or add washers.Unfortunately I couldn't find ANY M9 washers. (If anyone knows where I can get some that would be great!)
But I REALLY didn't want to hack off any axle.
So I now roll with M10 washers and the seclock nuts on both sides.
So far they have worked fine! Highly recommended: cheap and effective. -

From what I've read on here, Atomic 22 are better but more pricier:

From personal experience I can telly you that Aomic22 is amazing quality and I can't yet find a way to crack it, believe me I've tried! The guy who owns it is also really great, very friendly and helpful. It's expensive but you defiantly get what you have paid for!

I just lost my pit lock and got a serious flat that can't be patched. I contacted the dealer and he said it's looking to be 3 weeks. Anyone know how one can remove a pitlock without damaging it? 3 weeks in the summer without a bike SUUUCKS...

I recently bought a bike with pit locks on the wheels. I attempted to contact the seller in order to get the code but he is not responding. I got the bike off gumtree and I am now pretty sure it was stolen hence his lack of response. I feel bad as I have had bikes stolen and it's an awful feeling but it's too late now. What ways are there to remove pitlocks?
