  • I've got hoods on the road setup for the track bike, which is why I swapped out the Deda bars for the Planet X ones. Should be alright.

  • Ah I see! Should be fine then. Look forward to seeing this done.

Out of interest why does your colleague not rate the zenith forks.

  • Probably because he's the manager of a bike shop so he's used to getting better quality stuff for the same price. He didn't specify a reason.

  • So this is how I spend my Friday nights:

I have just been playing around with some very rough (read: MS Paint, as that's about the limit of my artistic skills) ideas for the frame decals I want to have made. These are the sort of colours I'm pretty set on, both are actually based on Brompton colours, the Cobalt Blue and the yellow.

From the start I've been drawn to digital-style graphics, not really sure why, and I'm sure the idea is being subconsciously stolen from something I've seen already, but I quite like these. Leaning towards top left at the moment, although the bottom right one would look a bit better if I could get that font to work in MS Paint - I had to do it in WordArt, and then copy and paste it across. I'm quite the graphic designer.

Constructive criticism and feedback, harsh as you like, gratefully accepted.

The idea would be just one decal on the downtube, something else for the headbadge, and a new 853 decal on the seat tube.

Whatever you think, it's got to be better than the official option:

  • why Weigh at all?

    why not Tommmmmmm?

  • in drop shadow

  • Blockbusters script and colours.

    And an Alter.

  • why Weigh at all?

Like this you mean? Hadn't really thought of that.

  • Aye! Why Weigh?

  • PS i very nearly bought that as well - glad it's gone to a good home. silly price in the end..

  • I have a carbon frame with 58 seat tube and 59 top tube going cheap...

  • So, srs bzns time, but does anyone have any feedback about my decal ideas? Good, bad, totally scathing, meh, either way I'd really appreciate some honest input. I want to get the paint done before I start putting everything else together, so I'm getting a bit impatient and will hopefully get something sorted and take it to Armourtex in the week.

  • I like top left most, ideally it would need to be slightly fading top to bottom.

    What size decals were thinking?

  • another vote on the top left from me. or the lower right but i don't like the fixed width of that..

    Talk to me...

  • I don't like any of the fonts.

If you're getting it resprayed why bother with getting Weigh decals - get something custom made up that's more personal/fun.

Decals should be bold and shouty or subtle. I always think you have to go to the extreme, one or the other.
Its a lovely frame. You could always get some wound ups?

  • ^^Its the chinarello

I considered that myself as well, and you're not the first to mention getting something more personal. But I don't really know what else I'd write there. I'm not the sort of person who would want to ride round with their own name on the bike, and Graham Weigh (or Terry Dolan) did build it after all.

    What else would you suggest?

  • Also, again with the Wound Ups! Still beautiful, still too expensive.

  • Can you get an original decal for just the head tube and leave the others plain? That is probably what I would do.

  • Anything but the name 'Weigh.'

  • Yeah Wound Ups are expensive - I replaced the ones I had with some EC90 SL forks. But I'll be damned if you can find another pair of those, with decent steerer! (in 1inch)

I was thinking something like this..

  • Font- check
    Colour scheme- check
    Bob Holness- check

  • ^^ Both of those frames look great (though if the first was mine I'd go with a silver headset and collar). I like the style of both of them but I'm still not really sure what I'd write on mine. It definitely wouldn't be the word 'fixie', and my invite to Grupetto is obviously lost in the post.

I did actually think of massive block letters like on the 953 frame, but I still can't get past the idea of just writing Weigh on it. Maybe I should just go to the shop and see what they're like. I did ride past it once.

    ^I think we're getting closer.

TIm, that is similar to spotter's idea, but I'm not comfortable with the idea of having a downtube with nothing on it, I'm just not sure it would look good and I am going for an aesthetic which is in some way modern.
