Hard to tell for sure from that photo, would be nice to see the BB shell. Lugs look plain, fork crown may be Vagner - this and the top tube cable routing suggest (early?) 80's to me. 90's pattern 531 decals - can't read underneath but I'm guessing they say 'Renovated' which suggests a repray. It may be an Olympic which was Mercian's entry level frame. Value? Dunno, £100-150 depending on condition?

Wow! LEJOG? How was the ride?
-
• #583
Yes, LEJOG.
Absolutely incredible!
I loved every minute of it and I would definitely do it again.
She rode like a dream. I had no pains other than the usual saddle sores as well, which was nice.
Scotland is the nuts for riding. The views were astonishing. The Lake District was joint first for a single days riding.
So many great memories. -

Sounds like you had an amazing time. Did you do it supported or solo and how long did it take? I've always wanted to have a go at it.

We did it supported with a guy called Carl, who is a legend.
http://www.great-bear-tours.co.uk/It was an 11 day ride, which allowed for time in the afternoon/evening to relax and enjoy a beer or two.
The most we rode in one day was 110 and the least was 75 miles.
We decided to add on miles and location to break the 1000 mile barrier. Which included taking in Cheddar Gorge and the Lake District.
Carl was amazingly relaxed and accommodating. A couple of days we wanted to do different routes so we sat and programmed something bespoke the night before for the Garmins.
I cant recommend him enough.I'd like to do it solo as well one day.
Cost wise, if you want to stay in accommodation, we found it cheaper to go with Carl. If you consider train fares and fucking about.Best trip so far!! Do it!

Just picked this up (well my aunt and uncle did) for a bargain. it is too small for me so planning to get a period saddle, new black tape, gum wall tyres and new cables / general service then it'll be for sale unfortunately. 57cm. Has anyone got a picture of a silver retro mercian for some inspiration please?

Thanks! Rides really nice as well.
Allthough Mercian is known for its fancy lugs, the Pro lugless is recommended also. Esp. the bottombracket area is smooth as a baby's ass - must have taken ages to get it like this. -

Thanks! Old school is the only way on an old school bike. Just a shame that modern helmets are compulsory on the track :(
