• Anything on the 510 I'd want over the 500?

For short TTs, no. The 510 might allow longer routes (more waypoints) plus more memory space for tracklogs and a longer battery life, so that could be a thing if you're using it for Audax.

  • Touch screen and wireless data I think were only upgrades. You can load routes and courses to follow yes.

  • Thanks, I'll have a look.

I'm going to be running it alongside the 800 during audax. The problem I have is that I need to eyeball the map all the time but then I can't see my power, which means I'm not doing my training properly.

Obviously Garmin should have a split map function that allows a row above the map to show one or two fields of ANT+ data but they suck, so instead I'll buy another one of their devices..

  • Ah, crap, the 500 and 510 don't have limits compared to 800s do they? That would suck. I'll have a look at DC's review.

  • Yeah think you can on 1000 and also 810.

    I'll double check 1000 later.

That said. I just leave it on turn by turn and then how power screen showing and then flick back and forth if I need to check something.

  • I would have thought the smallest unit, would be a tri watch With removeable head unit. This may not be the cheapest way of doing it I Guess. But you'd have a watch instead of a second garmin bike unit. Seems betterer.

My Garmin decided yesterday that I was averaging 56kph, yet not amassing any distance travelled. I fixed it by turning on Glonass. But that left me With a 147kph max speed fecking up my records. Plus after the update that caused this mess. It decided I'd want to know my 'number of steps' throughout my ride. Why are my settings being fucked With garmin!

  • Sounds like you need a device which shows a map and allows you to customise the data fields below it?

  • Dunno, not looked at the prices for used... 80 quid?

  • Yeah, except the Garmin 800 doesn't allow that. It has one map 'page' and you have to flick to the data page to see Power/Time/Speed/etc data.

What I'd like is to get rid of the pointless 'Street Name' header info and replace it with a 1 or 2 value display so I could have one big power readout or maybe an average power and 3s power readout.

  • I've got an 800 and I'm almost certain that on the map screen you can set a couple of data fields to display at the top. I have time and distance displayed sometimes.

I haven't got it in front of me, but can check when at home.

  • TBT was giving me shit during audaxes so I'm trying out just following a line on the map. Problem is, then I can't see power/time etc.

  • I fixed it by turning on GLONASS

    ftfy.
GLONASS support on SatNavs and phones isn't there for consumers' benefit, it's there to allow the manufacturers to sell in Russia without the punitive import tarriff applied to devices with GPS only. It is an unintended consequence that it sometimes provides a faster and/or more accurate position fix.

  • I'd stick with the cheaper and more well known Garmin, even if they do suck. The 310 watch seems to do power. That might be useful if I could have it rotated so it's visible most of the time while I'm on aero bars.

  • Really? googles

  • To change the data fields on the Map page:

Select Map (after step 5 from first number list)
Select the number of data fields
Select a data field to change2
Repeat step 3 for other data field
Touch Back (arrow pointing to left) to return to Training Pages

Damn. Can't test this, as it's at home.

  • Apologies, looking on past classifieds 80 is asking way too much. 60 quid.

  • @Hippy - I have a spare 310xt and modified aerobar mount for it if interested. Mount didn't fit my STUPID 24mm Deda aerobars.

  • It does work. I have two fields on my map page

  • Yep, definitely works.

  • Cheers. I'm going to try the steps above to see if I can get my 800 to work around the issue. If not, I'll get back to you.

  • I wonder if I could wear one on my wrist while racing and if it would be easier to see than my Garmin 800 on the flat mount? I'd have to wear it on the inside of my wrist I guess. How much did you want for it?

  • FTP and w/kg has gone up but whats the fucking point if every race I want to take part in gets full before I can sign up!?
