Its very easy to add a set of 10x 40/20s to a ride. If the road undulates or twists. This adds to the benefit IMHO. But if traffic is Heavy its not so great. You kinda need to be watching Your Power and time.

What a beautiful picture. I hope you get your sky soon.

Not in a road race.

@apc, your numbers sound realistic (and pretty decent) to me. I have similar-ish numbers but am a touch taller and less powerful. How tall are you out of interest?
I too would happily gain a few kg for an extra few watts, as I also struggle in the wind and keeping up on flat or rolling roads.
Unfortunately I've spent much of my weekends since new year slogging out 150-200km ish rides to get in shape for the 240km (and an unpleasant amount of climbing) Amstel Gold sportive, so specific training for power has gone out the window bar the odd 2 x 20 type session on the turbo in the evenings. The weekends have been more about seeing how long I can survive in the saddle!

Indoor versus outdoor FTP - Does 10% lower seem about right?
-
• #4332
That's the general sort of figure used, though personally I've yet to hit turbo numbers on the road so far this year.
-
• #4333
likewise... I am hoping its down to having had flu and the subsequent de-training, rather than having a higher FTP on the turbo than the road...

I find it easier to hit the numbers on the turbo too. The problem I find is the lumps and bumps in Kent make it harder to hold consistently high power. Ideally I need flat roads and a head wind.

can't tell if serious..

Deadly.

Where's a good spot near town to smash out 20 minutes on the flat for an FTP test?
Dual carriageways can GTF though.

By "smash out", I mean "head off too fast, waft around a bit for 8 minutes in the middle, then stamp on the pedals for the last few minutes to try and avoid the shame of a sub-200".

Reservoirs?

Last ten miles of the TNRC Roydon route. Not one turn / junction to be had.
Richmond Park lap anti - clock if you get there early / late enough
There are long roads around Potters Bar / Enfield with a slight incline that could, if mashed, take about 20 mins to ride end to end.

In looking for one I have found that I would seem to have been fastest in 2013. I was probably thinner.

Pretty fuucking unimpressed with the quality of rotor 3d plus cranks. They've chipped super eaisly and now have nice silver scratches on them.
And my rotor pf30 Bb is creaking already.
Rotor making shitty products.

Pf30 bb's... Don't seem to be any more robust than bb30. Always making some kind of noise.

I'm thinking of picking up a powertap since they seem to be becoming quite affordable second hand (I'm on a student budget!). I've seen a few older ANT+ models like the Elite+/Pro+ etc.
Anything to look out for in buying used older (Pre G3 model) powertaps? I've heard things about checking zero offsets and calibrations etc?
Thanks!

I'll try and add those into my training, maybe just once a week though. Just need to get a couple months of data really before I can begin to look at my weaknesses.
