• Must... find... another... metric.... to ... worry.... about....

  • Never.

  • Cycling is one big slippery slope

  • And how to actually break down the split variances in different power zones as well?

  • Cycling is one big slippery slope

Up or down though? Shit need my Garmin profile to tell! Quick!

  • You are laughing but I am now thinking whether I made my left knee suffer by compensating for the pin in the right leg by using my left leg more.

  • As mentioned above, I'm glad I avoided stages because it now appears that not only do I not have perfect L/R balance, but also it varies in a somewhat unpredictable fashion depending on the terrain/intensity. If I knew I had consistent 55% left leg bias then it would be a simple adjustment to recalculate my actual power but in my case the reality is that sometimes i'm 60/40 and sometimes 45/55 or anywhere in-between.

  • Exactly my concern - is an inaccurate measuring device worse than no measuring device?

    40.9 left, 59.1 right: http://tpks.ws/izPn

Probably not. Other than Hippy and Skinny* none of the rest of us are likely to win anything anyway so it's all just for fun isn't it :-)

  • Hippy fat winner!

skinny just that never heard he won anything, disabuse me.

It's all been discussed back here..

tl;dr they're not accurate but they might be precise enough to be useful.
You've enough different power meters though another one isn't going to hurt.

  • Soon Shimano will release a PM that sits in every £30 BB they sell and we will all LOL at the money and time everyone invested in this shit.

To be fair, I haven't a clue what skinny has or hasn't won. But (unless I've got my wires in a twist) his inclusion on this start sheet marks him out as being speedy enough.

  • To be fair, that seems true then.

I think I get a badge if I have one of each type.

  • Sew it on your swimtrunks for when you do that inevitable triathlon

  • But (unless I've got my wires in a twist) his inclusion on this start sheet marks him out as being speedy enough.

You have your wires twisted, he's there to make up the numbers. A bit like the times I've ridden in CTT National Championships, I've got a ride because they didn't get so many entries that they had to make a selection. Skinny is quick, but there are loads of domestic testers who are quicker but have no interest in the BC TT championship.

  • Surely its something that (if you are quick enough) everyone would want to do once?

  • Some people obviously don't, for various reasons. One reason is that a lot of domestic testers would need a new bike and a period of positional adaptation to ride under UCI regulations, another is that a lot of domestic testers wouldn't ride under UCI regulations if you paid them, since they want nothing to do with such a bunch of crooks :-)

  • Powertap freehubs- best option is direct from Saris, or is there an aftermarket item to consider? Shimano, preferably.

i.e. just get this one? http://www.cyclepowermeters.com/powertap-15mm-freehub---shimano-91011spd-1448-p.asp

  • Grab one of those Novatec ones you possibly still have lying around and you might get lucky. Novatec make Powertap's hubshell.

Here's someone swapping a Campag freehub off a road hub onto a Powertap.

  • Interesting. I only have a 10 speed Novatec hub however.

I'm not sure what the selection process is for the National TT, as there is a fairly simple one for the RR, E&1's get in then all the remaining spaces get filled by 2nd's generally filled on your points total. I'm pretty sure as long as you enter you'll get in though. It'll be interesting to see where the riders we know come in though. I see Xavier came 33rd at the national 50.

  • My Garmin 800 is on software release 2.6 - am I correct in thinking that this means I cannot use it with my Powertap Track due to being unable to stop the automatic zero-offset?

  • The answer to that is "yes, a Garmin 800 cannot be used with a track powertap".
