  • Halfords do free water bottles? Mad ting.

  • Going to watch tomorrow at a friend of my parents' house as it comes right past the driveway. How do I maximise my chances of getting a free new water bottle?

Act like you are off of your frickin' gourd on some weird drug that makes you want to eat people's faces and scare all the other spectators away on that stretch and you should get a free run at any bidons. I wanted to head for a feedzone to see if I can snag a musette or three. I'm hoping there's one after the sprint in Epping forest.

  • I missed the free part... Or did you ninja squints

  • It's pretty rural I'm hoping nobody else is gonna be around anyway - tempted to make a novelty sign with some form of horrendously weak comedic value in order to:

    a) get on TV
    b) get a free bidon (seriously will be over the fucking moon if I get one)

Horatio, no ninja'ing here, I'm about as ninja as Marcel Kittel climbing the Zoncolan on a Boris bike

  • If Brits are anything like the French (and I have no reason to suspect they are not), be prepared to fight people for anything that comes from a rider/promotional truck.

  • If Brits are anything like the French (and I have no reason to suspect they are not)

The British are British and the French are French. For obvious reasons, to a Canadian they all seem the same. :)

  • Are you saying Canadians have no sense of smell?

  • Well ... let's just say it's pretty cold in Canada all the time and everybody's always dressed like a lumberjack and never changes any of their clothes.

  • Russell Downing's Strava account has been left looking like an abattoir.

  • Laurens Ten Dam's ride is titled:

HARD DAY! People you're amazing. But please stay off the road! Thanks. LtD.

  • Holme Moss was incredible today, amazing atmosphere. Think I spotted an LFGSS cap but didn't get a chance to say hi

  • Some kid on a BMX on one of the descents

  • ^this

Who's the rider that slapped an iphone from the hands of a spectator? It came the time where athletes started to hate the supporters (difficult to call them supporters tho)

  • (Release the) Navardauskas was a bit punchy I believe.

  • Was a Garmin-Sharp rider IIRC (edit: Navardauskas, doubletap beat me to it)

How does that work in terms of liability? Granted the guy was being a monumental moron for being in the riders' space, but still it's the dude's phone and I doubt he can afford to just go replace it - it wasn't like he was the only one abusing the riders' space.

Does the chap just have to get on with it or what?

    Ramunas Navardauskas.

He got his ride at he expense of Millar, but he's earned his place with that iPhone takedown (oh yeah, and he was 3rd yesterday).

  • do you want to be the one rocking up to the team bus demanding compo?

He could probably go to the police for criminal damage but then, they might argue he was presenting a risk to the rider's safety and should stfu.

In the worst cases they can get fined by the UCI.
Dunno about the guy, he might go and complain to the organisers if he's not ashamed enough :)

  • Back in Manc, 60 today starting from Ilkley. After joining a kinder-esque mass trespass to get half way up the Stanbury climb I was v.happy to discover I was at Luci"s "corner", pie immediately and gratefully excepted.

Rode the route to top of Cragg Vale, with an hour break just before that climb in Hebden Bridge to eat and watch finish on big screen, before turning for home.

Lots more I could write but for those who were there, here's our employee of the day in full flow:

  • Wot?

I don't think what I'm asking is particularly difficult to comprehend?

No I wouldn't 'demand comp', all I'm saying is that it seems a bit harsh (think the dude who owned the phone was fairly young) and if it was me I absolutely would not be able to afford to replace it.

So to have it just smashed up like that for doing something that frankly LOADS of the fans were guilty of, I dunno am I being soft?

  • You have gone to a cycle race and acted dangerously. Those roads are closed. You are actually trespassing being on them.

The professional riders, not to mention the moto riders (who can and do accidentally hit and kill spectators) have far more to lose than a phone when you put it on their faces.

  • Smash everyones phones then?

The difference is surely that the Navardauskas' smashing of the phone was intentional, whereas the fans alleged risk to the riders was more idiocy than malice
