Till the age of about 12 I was living in the middle of nowhere, no good shops so no good toys.
My dog, combined with the fact my folks let me roam around by myself, was by far better than any toy I had. My dad made me a sick bow for my birthday once, any shitty GIJoe knockoff that I had was instantly shelved when I got the bow.
