The spreadsheet so far (minus the frame):
Any suggestions welcome, esp not sure about headset, tyres, SS kit & cog and disc brakes.

There was a discussion in the MTB thread about wide based single speed sprockets.
BB7s are probably the best bet for cable pull brakes. You could get away with a BB5 at the back - it's worth pairing them up with some quality sealed full length compressionless housing though.

ooh yes, cables, forgot those, what do you recommend?

Chris king obvs ;)

CK is too bling, dont want to spend so much on a headset.

The Gore Ride-on stuff works well for me. It's not cheap though.
Hope headset? They do mix and match now for tapered steerers.

now the question is Alfine Di2 or not?
Leave provision for later upgrade.

what are the thoughts on Tektro Lyra brakes?
-
• #87
I've got Lyras and they are ok - need regular adjustment (as per any other cable disk) - but they are fine.
I can't however compare with BB7s as I haven't used them.
Also: saw these in Condor:

what are the thoughts on Tektro Lyra brakes?
Go for BB7 Road or Haye CX5.

those brake levers look tasty however from the look of it they look similar to campag/ergo hence vom; need shimano/sram stype brake levers hence S500 :P
On the other note I'd avoid lyra, the rotors are beautiful though. What is the opinion about BB5? I remember Ed saying somewhere that Sram and BB7 dont mix or something ..

The TRP levers don't feel good with disc brakes (and nothing like the Campag shape, it got a weird V shape hood rather than an U shape), neither does the SRAM levers.
BB5 are the budget model.
I managed to get the Cane Creek SCR-5 levers to work brilliantly with disc with modulation similar to caliper.

What is the opinion about BB5?
How much do you weigh?
They don't stop like BB7s - they have smaller pads of a different compound.
But I ran one on the front of my CX race bike for a season and didn't have any complaints. People moaning that they are harder to adjust than BB7s are, well, wrong.

• #92
fine I think I'll go with BB7s then

I run SRAM levers and Tektro Lyras (Boo Hiss) and they offer good modulation and power - improved with the second set of pads (just standard Tektro pads but they are sintered - OE weren't).

Frame:
Andy/jammy has the CAD drawing from china which he will soon share with me, i'd guess a couple of week after that I'd have the frame.Got the following;
Sram S500 brake levers (Thanks Jammy)
Ordered the Kinesis CXD tapered fork
Decided to go for Hope hubs on Velocity A23 Black NMSW mostly to be built by TFG.Still need advice on tapered headset and few other bits and bobs

Hope headset, obvs.

any other cheaper alternative?
-

The Hope pick'n'mix is cheap for the quality.

http://www.ukbikestore.co.uk/product/24/hsc_lower/hope-pick-n-mix-lower-headset-cups.htmlLooks like you need to buy the head doctor separatly though.
