  • hmm, whats the downside of using non-symmetrically dished road wheels on a singlespeed cx setup? I've been thinking about getting those A57s for my mielec sscx.

  • Can't see why not, I seriously doubt it'll be weaker with a single cog than it would a full set of cassette.

  • ???

A dished wheel is weaker than a symmetrical one. Trufax. Uneven tension in the two sides, and less bracing angle.

But thats just fine tuning and bike nerdery, those A57s look solid enough.

  • Yeah. Clearly, the wider the hub spacing away from the centre line, up to a point, the stronger the wheel. But clearly dished wheels are used widely, in some tough applications. But apart from the strength it just looks better.

Fact is, loads of the bikes above do not have cogs sitting in the middle of spacers, so what are they running generally?

This is pretty much my point.

Trials hubs? Just a random guess.

  • Probably using an SS specific cassette hub such as;

    Not many options around though.

  • All city have an 130 rear hub, triton have them sometimes.

Surly have one too, not sure where you can get them though

  • does anybody have a picture of a cross bike with 26" wheels and fat tyres?

  • Fact is...

...not a fact. They've got spacers.

Stop freaking out about a dished wheel. You're not going to buy a King SS hub so it's time to allow it. 90% or CX bikes have freehubs and dished wheels and everyone is happy.

    Fact.

  • I like'm covered in mud... pure filth.

  • First iteration of the new SSCX. Some stuff will be upgraded, but it is rideble now.

Using Hope SS hub on Stans Crest rims. Quite nice.

  • nice wheels! Always hated the frameset, especially the fork :-)

  • that specialized frames actually really nice, do want

  • Awesome, love it

  • Surprisingly decent looking for such an ugly (if brilliant) frame set.

I would have gone for them if they're still selling it.

  • ...not a fact. They've got spacers.

Not freaking out dude, just wondering what it is that people use normally, that sort of thing. Yeah, my road bike and my geared MTB are dished, my SS is not. So you're right, two thirds of my bikes are dished. Just looking at options is all.

Sorry, not stropping, I mean "cheers".

  • I have a s/s 135mm spaced casette hub for sale the now, I have it on ebay but I'd pull it for a forum sale.

Freehub body is threaded and splined so you can spin a track cog onto it or use a splined cog plus a lockring.

Let me know if there's any interest.

Never seen a hub with full length thread for track cog like that. Do you know what brand it is? I could do with something like this but a disc version.
