Run a multispeed chain and cheap cogs and chainline becomes a non issue.

I'd like to see Cake and Nhatt's ss mtbs next to each other - ultimate his'n'hers

This is going to be what my next bike is without a doubt, with the possibility of being geared in the future.
For now, talk more to me about this using a 27" bike with 700c, I have one of those. But it's a 18-23 tubing Raleigh, will it be strong enough? I'll probably use flat bars and ss not fg. Not be for cycle cross as such, just a light weight trail bike for when the rigid mtb is too much

Yes it will be strong enough. They are perfect for less challenging off-roading, in fact the area I live in is all un-challenging off-roading which is why I stopped using an MTB 8 years ago and have used SS cross bikes and fixed track bikes ever since.

I'd have taken umbrage at the fact it's got 2 rear cogs but only one front so chainline is either slightly off in both gears, or very off in one. #whatsthepoint
Do you only ever use 2 gears when you ride a 2x10 geared bike?

If you have some spd-style pedals and shoes, you might enjoy it even more - but flat pedals can also be very nice cause you can drive closer to the edge and abandon ship whenever you feel like it.
-
• #491
polo players are used to ride very close to the edge even with spd's.
That's a lovely polo bike though, what frame is it? -
• #492
Custom geo Reynolds 631/Columbus by BTR Fabrications, who usually make slack DH hardtails. From memory, the wheelbase is about 95cm, 56cm ETT.
The soles of my SPD shoes have separated from the uppers so it'll be flats this time.

flex must be mental with that much stem showing. also, brakeless cx? madness!

I applaud you Thuekr

also, brakeless cx? madness!
Why? Brakes in cyclocross are solely there to scrub off some speed when required, and most of the time stopping pedalling can have the same effect.
-
• #499
I'd say about 15% of my race laps have been brakeless. With a freehub. Fun fun fun.

Who need brakes when you have trees?
I'd have taken umbrage at the fact it's got 2 rear cogs but only one front so chainline is either slightly off in both gears, or very off in one. #whatsthepoint
