If its alright that I now only have the road bike I'd love to join on my first forum ride (and longest ride yet too). Looks like you left from right outside my office last time so it's easy to get to the start too.

I'd be keen, done it once fixed and wouldn't mind geared this time

Thanks for all the enthusiastic posts! I've got no firm date yet for this - there's rather a lot going on in the Ludd household at the moment, but I think I'll be aiming for early November, hoping for one of those cool magical misty mornings that gradually turns into sunshine as we reach Epping Forest. I'll be at home this evening and may be able to identify some possible dates, in which case I'll post a fresh thread.

I rode with gears last year, as did a number of others. It was all fine, as the terrain didn't seem to be of the kind that separates fixed from freewheelers: no long descents to let the higher gears get ahead, no steep climbs where the fixed riders race ahead.

Both the times I've done this as a forum ride I have failed to stay at the end for pubbage, due to commitments back home. I hope this time I might at least stay for a pint.

Hmm, it's all looking a bit tricky in November. I've got a couple of Sundays available (17 and 24 November) but I'm conscious there's a risk of engineering works and replacement buses on Sundays. Saturday 16 November might work - we have people staying on the Friday and Saturday nights but I'm not going to pretend they're coming to see me, and I could probably absent myself.

I'll conduct further negotiations about that during the course of the day, but I'm posting now to let folks know that I've not got a great deal of spare weekend. If there's demand for a ride on any other weekend, please feel to press ahead without me: I don't have any sense of ownership about this ride!

OK, it looks as though Saturday 16 November is workable for me, so I'll put together a new thread when I have time.
