  • hmm, I'm suddenly impulsively tempted by this. Was just thinking how I fancied a ride that wasn't a commute, it's been bloody ages. Is fixed/front brake two brakes?

As the another famous doctor, and I am not speaking of Johnson, would say

"Com'on, what's the worst that could happen?"

Two brakes is really needed on the down hills, s/s is the smart option, but do-able fixed. The crew are splendid, and if it is half as much fun as last year, we will have a ball.

Oh, and for anyone else who is wavering, no one will be turned away as long they are braked up and ready for a rare adventure.

And maybe, to close, some words from the Dean himself, which shows that maybe the hubris and deception of Dragon's Den is nothing new.

"He had been eight years upon a project for extracting sunbeams out of cucumbers, which were to be put into vials hermetically sealed, and let out to warm the air in raw inclement summers. He told me, he did not doubt in eight years more, that he should be able to supply the Governor's gardens with sunshine at a reasonable rate; but he complained this his stock was low, and he entreated me to give him something as an encouragement to ingenuity, especially since this had been a very dear season for cucumbers."

  • Feeling jaded from some work-related shenanigans, but all being well will see you good people on Putney Bridge at the appointed time. Will text Upstart Tim if any change.

Don't let the travails of work put you off.

The brisk air, the bruising banter, the circling kites, the majestic colours, the foaming ale...

You are feeling better already, are you not?

An unassailable argument - I'm in. Tart tyres or gatorskins?

  • not really sure where I was going with that.

Looks like a few of the young ladies lining up outside the 'spoons in Croydon.

  • Only just read the op about double brakes. No chance for me on my track bike - are any of the downhills worse than, say the north/south downs?

If you are fixed, you have effectively two brakes. Give yourself plenty of room fore and aft, stay alert, control the speed, and it will be fine.

  • if you have a hole, I can lend you a brake+crosstop?

  • ^Thanks for the offer, but no drilling.
