The police have said they'll do nothing as it's criminal damage for them or Liz to cut the lock(sure this is bs).
Utter bullshit - If someone deprives you of the reasonable enjoyment of your own property, purposefully or inadvertently, that negates any notion that regaining reasonable use (using reasonable methods) could be considered criminal damage.

It's your property, which you are being unlawfully deprived of.
