heard back from the Cycle Task Force just now on the emailer:
though we would like to help we do not have the cutting equipment necessary to cut locks as we are pre dominantly a proactive investigation unit.
If the circumstances suggested do occur I suggest you contact the Police to let them know what you are doing and seeing if the Fire Brigade or Local Builders Hire shop can assist with the removal of the locks.
responded,
Given that one method for thieves to steal bicycles is by locking a dummy bicycle to the bicycle they intend to steal, and you guys are part of a Cycle Task Force which has within its remit ātackling cycle theftā, Iām surprised that the Cycle Task Force is without capacity at present to address what seems to be a real problem affecting cyclists. Surely it would be better for the authorities to intervene in lock removal instead of the cyclist needing to get involved with lock breakage!

Bumping this thread because someone has suspiciously bitch locked me in Deptford today.
Power is forthcoming, so a friend is retrieving an angle grinder. More updates to follow.

Friend managed to take a link out of the chain near the padlock. So actually, the perpetrator will be able to re use the lock. The nearby public building took it on themselves to take the (now unlocked) bike into their care in case it was a harmless idiot who would return later.
As much as the perpetrator ruined my day, I'm seeing their bike being in one piece still as a win. Unless they're a thief. In which case I wish we'd cut it in half.
