Hi BN - can I get some pro tips for the scaffolding bike hanger please?
I have a shed now and a bit of time this weekend to drill holes in things :)
I've decided the bikes have to go at the back wall, which is 1.5m wide at the boards or 1.4m at the inside of the studs.
Thanks!

Sure, though it's not a scaffold pole that I eventually used. That seemed a bit overkill, so I got one of these instead.
8 foot x 2 inch steel aerial mast
All that's used to keep it in place are two of these rubber coated bicycle hooks, screwed into some reasonably solid timbers and angled down slightly, so that the mast rolls down into them.
The rear wheels of the bikes touch the floor, so there's really not much weight for the hooks to support. You can't put stuff underneath them, but it's much easier to simply roll your bike(s) into place, without lifting them up high.
Apart from that, a few hooks, rings and silicon tubing for covering the hooks and that's all you really need. Very little construction required ( drilling two holes and sawing the aerial mast to length ) and it's easy to remove if needed :-)

Thanks! This was really helpful. I popped to B&Q this afternoon and took down the old shelves. Then it rained so I've given up until tomorrow.

I've just found this thread and read it from the beginning to the end - very inspiring, chief, thanks for sharing!
Out of curiosity, did you keep track of the cash that went into this glorious shed? Rough "guesstimate"?

Cheers mmp. It's been a while since I last counted, but everything up to the point this photo was taken cost around £2.6k
That's all the bench material piled up behind the Surly. The only things I've bought for it since then are the metal shelving units and various tools.

I bet its added significant value to the house though.

Just read through this thread. 5 star shed!

Cheers. There's still plenty of stuff that needs doing, but for now, I'm just appreciating being able to use it.
Even if it is only for tinkering with bikes :-)

Looking good BN!
How does the internet work? Is that a wireless aerial on a big stick picking up signal from the router in the house?
Is that actually a ghetto hot tub?
You need to cut that lead down for the tube heater, it's way too long!

Wish I had a shed!

Pretty much. There's a signal repeater plugged in the loft of the bungalow, so the signal only needs to go < router - through the ceiling > - < repeater - through roof > thus bypassing several thick walls.
The aerial ( sold for caravans ) picks up the wireless signal, which is then sent through a wire, via USB into the shed. I couldn't go all wireless, as the foil-backed insulation laughed in the face of that idea.
The 'stick' will be replaced by a 10 ft aluminium aerial mast and then I'll need to drill a hole in the shed wall to feed the USB cable through, as it's only going through an open window right now.
Is that actually a ghetto hot tub?
Nah, fish pond :-)

Just get some tropical fish and have it serve both rôles. #lifehacker

Please tell me the next addition is going to be Colditz style tunnel to the second shed in case the extraterrestrials come looking for you?

Already sorted.
This is next on the agenda :-)

Rep'd! Gotta love vintage Batman!

Have you earthed the antenna?
I don't want to scare you but what happens if it gets struck by lightning?
A man and his shed what a beautiful thing..
