Amazing riding by all those that did it
In that heat and with those headwinds over that distance
Very very impressive -

Look forward to reading about how people approach this. Did 200km today, Cambridge and back, and am fucked. Another 100km? Just wouldn't have the time!
Do you generally do the distance needed (about 280km a day?) in one go, sleep 8 hours and repeat?

Look forward to some thoughts on the ride guys!

• #430
Phew!
JaRyder is doing the ride as well right? I met him at registration but never got his name, would be nice to know how he's doing

I think that's Pete. No update for a while - doesn't look good :(
How do you feel, Jordan? You beast!

^^Some brief stories to wet your appetite:
Following the tandem riders in a pace line on a relatively busy lane,
out jumps a deer about a metre ahead of the tandem narrowly missing the bikes but plowing head first into a car moving the opposite direction
huge impact, glass flying everywhere, deer flies behind our paceline almost hitting "Gadget" of AC Hackney.
We carry on, unscathed, counting ourselves very lucky...Reach Kirton on the return leg, go get my brevet card stamped and notice a Dave Yates frame leant on the floor.
Ask a random volunteer why the frame is lying around
Volunteer: "Oh that's just a frame I brought along for jerry, he had his nicked a while back and this one has been been lying around for a while...
...I'm Dave Yates by the way..."

^^Gotcha, here's hoping that he's still plodding along.
And not too bad thanks, I've felt much worse after 200s! Don't fancy sitting on a saddle for a while though >.<

Congrats to all the finishers so far! You bunch of fucking mentals ruining a good tour :)

• #435
Amazing work Jordan - well done!
-
• #436
Thanks KT :)
I met a lady called Nicki on the first day, we were talking about AC Hackney and london audax riders and she mentioned a certain lady from london who rode a 300km with her recently who would be a great candidate to jump on board the old ship Hackney.
I soon realised it was you she was referring to!
You're officially an audax celeb!

Ha! I learned pretty quickly on that ride not to tell people what I do for a living. Well you've all set the AC Hackney bar pretty high now ...

^ 2 great stories jordan. Sure there are more.
Hippy I variously heard dozens of conversations about you and your mersey adventure on this ride.
Household fkn name.

^^As long as you're an Audax UK member you're welcome to join! Just have to change your club on the AUK website.
Anyway a 300km shows you're overqualified if anything haha :p
We had one female member join very recently although I've yet to meet/ride with her :)
^Cheers fella, well done again, absolutely flew round! 'Ackney!

I rode with him on his Dave Yates classic MTB that he finished today, and it look like it was already build with the component in mind.
He look real happy at Great Easton plodding along putting up the signage for the last legs (which was FUCKING AWESOME).

Guessing Ed had a nice long sleep at Brampton and Vesalius at Barnard Castle
I have 9 hours sleep not by intention as the volunteer somehow forget to wake me up at 3.00 and luckily the mechanic whom I was speaking to the other day spotted my bicycle next to the workstand and realised it have been there for too long while others have been and gone.
I put it there because it was pouring rain and I don't want a soggy Brooks saddle, especially when I never had chamois cream, had it not been raining, I would have been disqualified.
End up leaving Brampton at 07:03 and just about managed to get to Barnard Castle with an hour and half before the cut-off time.
The first night fucked me up hugely, I hadn't slept well prior to the ride (4 hours) and took a very strong painkiller that made me doozed off and almost crash several time (the only time I managed to keep my eyes open were on the Humber Bridge), I kept stopping in villages to sleep on the bench for 15 minutes until I arrived in Pocklington at nearly 4am, a huge time gap.
Bit of a shame really, otherwise would have rode with Vesalius at the end.
At Market Rasin getting a couple hours kip before the last legs;

Last but not the least, I last saw him at St Ive, he managed to rode the entire way on this crap bicycle with just a rear brakes, he was wearing normal clothes (t-shirt, those adidas classic trainer, etc.) and a small single orange Ortieb panniers that probably cost several time as much as the bike.

Which brings me to a question. How do the riders keep themselves entertained on the ride. For me the limiting factor on my rides is boredom.
Extremely simple, by realising that he also face the same issue (taken in the Fen as well);
-
• #445
Yep, he made it with 19 minutes to spare, fucking chapeau!
-
• #446
Immense effort guys. Hats off for finishing!
This has been better spectating than the TdF. Thanks Greenbank.
Rep all round. -
• #447
Chapeau!
I think that's French for "shit hot effort"
-
• #448
Never met any of you, but I subscribed to this thread and have been willing you round.
Never ridden more than 100 miles in a day so I can't imagine what you've out yourselves through.
If I can ever get myself fit enough, I'd love to have a crack at a 4/600 but this just sounds mental.
Mad props.

Vesalius - the new female member is KT Bee!
P.s. - LEL - Amazing work for all those riding! Chapeau!

Chapeau everyone!
Damn there are some solid riders on that spreadsheet.
Stoked that Adam did so well - probably makes him one of the first fixed finishers.
