Once you've done it, it'll start to feel rather short....

I was on the waiting list... spotted the reply in my spam.
rather short
I still remember how I felt after the 540km ride i did last summer which still fills me with dread :-)
I guess the build up in training will hopefully dispel any fears I may have come LEL day... or that's the theory.

If anyone wants to borrow the book on this that I bought, get in touch.

The fact that he could do it despite all the problems he had and bad weather gives me hope that it really is a realistic prospect!
...Barring mechanicals of course...

I managed to get a place, got phoned by my cycling friends at 1am
"entry is open quick quick"
Cold sweats hiting the "enter now" button.
Prospect of cycling london to brighton and back twice a day for 4 days.....oh and the minor mountain range to ride over getting to edinburgh then turning back to repeat the climb, 11,000metres :-

I'm still really excited though!

LEL was featured in the CTC rag this month. The author makes it sound easy and fun. Personally, I am not tempted.

There's a photo of me in it too.
I rode various bits of LEL'09 with Patrick, it brought back some great memories.

Still team name LFGSS? I won't be fixed though ;)
Stuck my time down for a 10:30 start, not too fussed if I get changed around though.
And probably won't go for the prologue, not 100% sure yet...
-
• #167
Ohh yeah I almost forgot about LEL.... I didn't, I'm just putting in a little box at the back of the brain.
I'll join you at 10:30.
By the way are most people going for a particular time or just avoiding sweeper wagon?
-
• #168
^Likewise haha, and I'm probably in the avoid the sweeper wagon/have an enjoyable ride bunch :)

I've just read "Barring Mechanicals" - a really engaging book, some brilliant cameo appearances (and fleeting mentions of couple of LFGSS folk) and an insight into to mental and physical torment that riders put themselves through. Thanks Sparky!

• #170
No problem. I'm happy to lend it out again to anyone who's doing the ride and wants to get some insight.
-
• #171
in fact, unless Sparky objects, I could deliver the book to the next reader

I don't object at all.

Manchester?

Well, it would be easy enough to post it to you - but I'm mindful that Sparky hasn't yet had a chance to read it, and so he may have reservations about it travelling the length and breadth of the country.

I bought it when I was hoping to enter. Thankfully all the places went before I got a chance, saving me the pain, blood, sweat and tears. As long as I get it back in the end I don't mind where it goes.
So true, i can understand some people being disappointed, but it's not the organisers fault if you commited so much to something you weren't guaranteed on getting in?
As far as I can tell they're doing a great job in the face of (relatively*) unprecedented interest in the event.
*I had a feeling it was going to sell out fast :/
