Saying that, I wasn't keen on the Current Projects sub-forumification suggestion and now I think it's ace.
In hindsight that one was so freaking obvious. So much pent up demand just to follow a lush bike build through all of the stages from inception, part foraging to finished thing.
I always think that things should be undoable... so if sub-cats for classifieds happens and if it doesn't feel like it's worked... then I should just be able to move all threads back into the parent forum, nuke the sub-forums and we'll be back where we are.

threats of violence? i thought that was a bannable offence
woohoo, no mods for a couple of weeks
I've always threatened violence.
It's part of the forum's core programming...

I will vote this proposal up as long as Misc & Meaningless is added to the drop-down menu in the header.
That's my final offer.

Remove Freestyle & Tricks if you need to make room.

I'd be happy enough with it split 3 ways. Full bikes, Components, Other (clothes/OT stuff/Magazines etc). Not sure I see the point in splitting out wheels and wheel components from the other components. If you're doing that, why not a drivetrain sub-forum etc.
My 2p :)

Just my view after looking for my first build bits and pieces.
What about a 'single/fixed' and 'geared'
I found this forum while searching for info on single and fixed gear bikes, for good or bad the forum is a 50/50 single speed and geared and the classifieds are also full of both.
I missed alot of fixie stuff because of all the geared stuff.
Just my newbie experience. -

Bars etc can be used on both. Breaking into components makes more sense.
Like eBay

I don't get some peoples argument about how they like browsing through all the threads, when VB has said a few times that he's not getting rid of this function.
I think sub categories would be good, though I do like going through the "Clear out" threads in search of good deals and small bits that I might need. Could there be a "Clear out" category as well? Unless this defeats the point of splitting it up for ease of finding stuff.

Why not just have a sticky OT thread, complete bike thread and MTB thread, then people can just post those specific thing in there?

"Clear-outs" can all be handled by a Components forum, with perhaps one or two threads in Bikes if you happen to be getting rid of some frames.
Not a big inconvenience at all.

You're starting to sound like hippy. Shall we just merge all Classifieds into one thread? Then people will know exactly where to look for things and sell things.
-

As more people get merged, they'll all start to sound like hippy.

Good that you mentioned Twitter... I'm inclined to create a second twitter account for LFGSS classifieds... so that those who want latest discussion topics get them, and those who want classifieds get those.
A frequent complaint from Twitterers is that they unsubscribe because the classifieds makes it too noisy for them.
I'll wait for the outcome of this debate before doing that though.
Split twitter but keep them in the RSS.
Please.

Brilliant. I'll start now...

Anyone wants to buy a saddle bag?
-
• #68
btw a search for "saddle bag" brings up that post as the first result.
-
• #69
^ no.. this is the result when you search for 'saddle bag' post..
For Sale: Northface Bag blah blah blah
by: Nurseholliday.. and i don't normally search on threads as i know that it will clutter up my search.. coz maybe 'saddle bag' is being discussed on some threads which i am not interested with..

It's a mess, but it's our mess.
But I would vote 'yes' for public hangings for those who remove the prices when their items have sold.

Luddites.
Change it

Voted "yes" only because the classified forum is so fast moving these days. Stuff can drop back ten more pages in a day and while the search function here is very good it would be handy to be able to zone in more quickly on the items you're looking for.
-
• #73
Exactly!
If you're not 24hrs on the forum then you blink, you lose. Definitely needed a consultation.

Bike Radar have just split Road Bikes into whole bikes and parts - after 2 weeks of the new system I can't say I'm a fan. I like having everything in one place, but proper headings would help massively to sell your goods, makes sense.

maybe have a separate frame's and complete bike sub forum ? and a miscilanious sub forum incase people have a mix of item's and don't want to list separately ?
I like it how it is
1 - Most stuff that I buy on here I'm not specifically looking for, I'm just browsing and something takes my fancy/is a good price so I buy it.
2 - Clicking through loads of menus to get to things is a ball ache (Pink Bike classifieds is my basis for this).
3 - This isn't a supermarket, half the fun of a carboot is digging around and finding stuff, not that the analogy is completely accurate for the classifieds here but I do enjoy browsing and seeing what's out there (even if I have no intention of buying it). If you want to find something easily and for items to have similar descriptions across the board go to wiggle or CRC.
Saying that, I wasn't keen on the Current Projects sub-forumification suggestion and now I think it's ace.
