Next up I think we should swim in the sea: should be warm for another month yet.
OK - maybe a little tempted by this. South or East?

I've just had a London-Brighton partner cancel on me for tomorrow so I'm turkin' (is than appropriate slang? I've probably not heard it since the 90s) for a long ride incorporating a body of water and at least one other human.

probably a repost, but just came across this and thought it might interest: http://waterlogreswum.com/

Having just seen this wild swimming documentary http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbofZZZ0BUI
I am definitely coming on one of these rides next summer.

Read the book that some (all?) were based on. It will make you want to swim outdoors all the time.

Yes, it looks like a great book.

^^ I loved that - especially where she floated down the Wye (? - I think).
Definitely planning to do some more next summer - plus a repeat of Dedham. I like the idea of making it out to Lechlade, but that is defintely a longer ride. -

As if I needed telling twice - definitely planning to more of this this summer. (Credit to YAL for discovering the song).

Woohoo!

Yes please.
Will try to not be working all the time this year... -

I have since this learned not to drown (note: not how to swim, just how to not drown)
-
• #165
Really want to come on this ride this year.
-
• #166
Early season dip?
-
• #167
^^^ I, similarly cannot really swim, but I am usually ok at not-drowning.

Good stuff. I too am not a great swimmer, but buoyancy is a definite plus.
Definitely want to do Dedham again. Haven't really thought about other destinations. The ride to Clifton H was lovely, but I don't think it was as inviting a spot as Dedham, and getting to Lechlade feels like a lot of slogging up the Thames Valley - there might be better routes, but when I tried (and failed) last time I just got quite sick of the sight of Didcot power station.
Maybe up and over Box Hill and on to here: http://www.wildswimming.co.uk/map/silent-pool-and-bolder-mere/
Or if we're feeling energetic ... http://www.wildswimming.co.uk/map/twyford-itchen/ perhaps train out the first bit.
I got a welly full of Thames water the other day and lost all feeling in my toes. May wait a little longer for my first dip

I'm so in for this. Made it to the threads last summer, but not to the rides - usual story, work.

Wetsuits allowed? Or just liberal smear of HTFU?
-
• #171
Everything's allowed, but I'm not completely sure I'd want to cycle 80 miles carrying a wetsuit. You could always wear it on the bike, like a sort of heavy duty skin suit, I suppose...

There'll be no need, because the weather will be GLORIOUS.
-
• #174
That would work for me, although anyone in a wetsuit is a giant pansy :P

Ooh, looks like an interesting thread. Am also in the 'doesn't drown' catagory.
Equally, if the stars aligned, I know a good route to lechlade, and could possibly sort out lifts back to Oxford to get trains (if people don't mind horse boxes for bikes). Though it would still be quite a big day.
rhyme or homonym?
does anyone know much about the river Roding? not necessarily for swimming in, just generally.
