I honestly can't believe a word of that reddit account of the accident. Sounds far too much like someone's imagination gone wild.
Nobody with the humanity to crawl to him etc. and feel the necessity to write about it straight after getting home could be so emotionless, could they?

Stress and shock can effect people in very odd ways.

Here's to hoping it isn't someone we know.

Just got greeted by a very worried Dad who gave me this awful news and was thank full it wasn't me.
This is on my commute and has really got to me, some of those coach drivers are really driving like fucking mentalists.Condolences to the family and friends

This one is really in the limelight. Will be big pressure to conduct this investigation thoroughly and by the book.

RIP rider.
Heard the news about this at East's tonight and coming home and seeing the logo turned black truly brought it home. Like the others I hope it's not someone we know, but I'm broke up it should be anyone at all.

RIP. My GF was shattered when I spoke with her as I didn't pick up the phone over last 2 hours, I am 30 and this happened just round the corner from where I live.
This really hit me to think about how his friends and family would feel.
me too... I just called my dad back at 1.30am after 3 hours of voicemails and missed calls as I left my phone behind and went out, something I rarely do. He burst into tears when I finally called.

RIP to the cyclist, and condolences to his family and friends.
The reddit account could be true. I attended an accident and was the person to give first aid. The victim lost a major limb, right there in the street, but I did the best I could. The full shock of it came 30 minutes later, and I needed to sit down for a couple of hours when I got home. If the account is made up, then that person is a sad piece of work.

It breaks my heart when the logo turns black.
Rest easy rider.

Of course it could be true. People deal with extreme trauma in different ways. If writing about an event like that straight after it happens helps then so be it. I found the account harrowing and the witness must have been in complete shock.
RIP

The incident got a short mention on BBC1 news just now. (8am) They mentioned it was a double decker bus and the person was 28.

RIP :(
I agree it could be true, to me it has a ring of truth about it, his previous posts don't suggest a troll but who knows.
This was reported in the headlines on Radio 4 Today this morning, accompanied by the number of cyclists killed a year in Britain and a quote from Bradley Wiggins where I'm fairly sure he said that helmet wearing should be made compulsory, don't know if anyone can verify that?
-
• #120
Yeah, they just played the Wiggins quote on the BBC news now. This isn't the place for the helmet debate, but if the witness account is true, a helmet probably wouldn't have saved this poor guys life.

Helmet debate to helmet thread >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
As to whether the eyewitness statement is true or not, a truth unfortunately exists in the fact that a 28yr old man lost his life yesterday evening.
-
• #122
It's not the place for a debate on helmets, but the fact the BBC are using that quote in relation to this story is relevant, and pretty insensitive actually given the facts aren't known IMO.

RIP rider.
What a crushing low, after the TT joy of earlier in the day.

Here are my thoughts on the fatality: http://cycling-intelligence.com/2012/08/02/a-black-day-for-the-olympics-and-cycling-in-london/
Take care

My inclination is that the reddit eyewitness is legit. It's an established account that's posted about cycling before. Horrible for all involved.
