Moaning about tennis in the Tour de France thread? Seriously? I've got half a mind to nerge those involved. Honestly.

  • Nergs self for moaning about people moaning about tennis in the Tour de France thread.

  • Double Alpe D'huez should be sick. Seems like a long tour as well. I reckon it's going to grind a lot of people out.

Don't forget we have a play around on mont ventoux coming up.
Team Sky have gone too hard too early.

  • I'll probably tune in... just in case something happens :)

  • I found Peter Kennaughs crash a bit worrying, because nobody seemed to do anything about it. The peloton merrily carried on, of course (although to be fair I think someone from BMC, maybe Cadel, had a quick looksie) but where was everyone else? Maybe it was just the camera angles and a medic/marshall was just out of shot? But what if he'd been seriously hurt? It's not like crashing out down a ravine hasn't ended badly in the past. If he had been knocked out I wonder how long it would take everyone to realise a bike lying by the side of the road doesn't mean someone's gone for a wee in the bushes...

Especially the rider whose stupid maneouvre knocked Kennaugh off in the first place...he seemed to turn around, see Kennaugh sliding off down the bank, and then pedal merrily on. I thought it was a gentleman's sport?

  • Jeebus! It happened before I tuned in so I didn't see what had happened until now, the reaction of the peloton was actually pretty disgraceful. Wtf?

I know they had a hard day ahead of them, but for fuck's sake.

  • He looks properly dazed as he climbs out of the buhses (as you would!).

  • Froome is doping and the others are not?

If it's doping related it is more reminiscent of ONCE, Zulle and the bad fish.
Sky were not, actually, that strong yesterday. Only Froome, Porte and Kennaugh were there on the last climb. Until today, at least, Porte would not really have counted as just a domestique (like Froome last year) so really yesterday they were very far from being as powerful as Movistar were today.

  • The idea that Froome might be doping but the others at Sky not seems plain daft to me. They wouldn't know? Or they would know but tolerate it? And the same for Wiggins? Or they worked for a clean Wiggins and now they are willing to work for a doped Froome? It makes no sense. Either the whole team is systematically doping or none of them are.

  • Maybe, just maybe the guy is simply hard as fuck...

  • ^^ because there is no history of individuals doping outside a team context?

    . I thought it was a gentleman's sport?

    This is a joke.

  • If Sky are doping as a team, then they should be seeking a refund tonight.

As for Movistar, well played guys, but for the love of fuck dump that risk averse, conservative, cojones lacking twat Valverde and throw your resources behind Quintana. All that work today and did Alejandro ever put his nose in the wind? You've got your foot on the throat of the yellow jersey, one concerted push and he's done and what do you do? Follow the wheels. You lily livered twat.

  • Pleased for Dan Martin.

Schleck looked a much changed man today. Good to see.

  • ^^This.

When the Movi team came together as 6 or 7 they should have looked to go again and again as a team and try to take the yellow. I think Quintana could take Froome but we won't know now.

    tactics mate, tactics..

  • ^^ Presumably he [Quintana] can't TT as well as Froome though, so might have been wasted energy at this point, assuming that they still think Valverde would be more suited overall

  • Quintana won the TT in the Tour of Basque Country earlier this season. He's one hell of a talent.

  • I thought we were going to see quintana attack, wait, attack, wait, repeat until attack attack attack.

  • There's a couple of bumps left still, and chances are he has more confidence/liberty to go for it after today.

  • He did what he could, but every time Froome brought him back, Valverde should've tried. Froome couldn't chase them both, repeatedly.

  • ^This!

  • Froome is doping and the others are not?

No idea. I just thought it was strange that the whole team, except for Froome, was so knackered. I don't think I've seen that before. I didn't watch yesterday's stage, and even if I had done I wouldn't have been able to tell how exhausting the work was that they did. Sky have their own chef, don't they? I admit it's unlikely, but they wouldn't broadcast it much if they had a stomach bug. Then again, perhaps the other teams had heard something. And why did Kiriyenka, who is normally so strong, not make the time cut? Anyway, just speculating.

  • I found Peter Kennaughs crash a bit worrying, because nobody seemed to do anything about it.

I suppose because there are qualified professionals further back who are supposed to deal with that sort of thing. Kennaugh is not a protected rider and so no teammates waited with him. The team doctor and the team car come later in the cavalcade. Still, you're right that it doesn't look as if they're a peloton of Good Samaritans.

  • was wondering why Froome who looked strong enough, didn't put the willies into them by attacking himself? Know he's got the jersey and a time advantage, but as Movistar did the obvious and waited till the last climb to try and break him, why wouldn't he go with 2 or 3 km to the top of the last climb knowing its all downhill to the end?
