  • Thanks. How do I clean the varnish? Physically scrubbing?
What's the difference between these 'new' style contacts and the old ones?

Thanks for your help, I'm not too clued up on this kind of thing.

  • The old ones were thin wire loops, bit more flimsy than new ones. Electronically speaking, it's just a bit of metal to connect the battery to the board, no wonder science needed.

To take the varnish off a bit of glass paper should do it, but be delicate, you only need the odd square mm around the place on the board to re-solder. Nail varnish should be good for replacement.

  • Grand. Do you think/know there are any heat-sensitive components? Will a crocodile clip be a sufficient heat sink if there are?

    Thanks hairnetnic.

  • there's probably a bunch of heat sensitive bits, heat sink away.

It might still be worth contacting rr4m to see if he will fix it up by post, but equally it looks like a fairly simple job...

  • Thanks. Probably can't get it to rr4m and back again in time for the DD so I'll risk it for a biscuit and take the plunge myself.
    Cheers for the advice.

  • If you want to borrow (and I mean borrow not have) then I've two minis waiting for it to get darker that aren't getting much use. PM me in case I don't see a reply

  • Hi Taras or anyone else who might know.

I broke the battery holders on my ledus (probably in a crash I walked away from). One is lost entirely and the other has lost one of the side clips.

Reckon I can replace them with anything like this and it'll work again with a little solder?

One of mine has broken too in the winter weather, keep me updated, they were shoddy anyway.

  • ^^ Thanks for the offer PM'ed
^I'll let you know how it goes.

  • Retro reflective paint?

    Also comes in spray bottles.

Guess you could coat spokes in it.

    @rr4m

Kickstarter? I think your product could be massive.

  • I've somehow broken the little start button off mine. Think it got ripped off during the Dunwich Dynamo when my rear raceblade got sucked into my brake bridge and needed to be cut off.

Is there anything I can do to fix it? I miss the LED shinies :(

  • Damn on the Ledus, missed it totally but that's the first one of those I have liked.

    Shame they're sold out.

Out of curiosity... how much were they?

  • 10 led ones were about £35-£40 inc. delivery iirc.

You do ride into stuff though while you look at your back wheel to check what pattern is showing while riding home drunk. So not that safe.

  • 25 quid for small, 40 for large I think.

Buy a new switch and solder back on? Maybe £0.50...

    This is true.

Hm, can do. Trip to Maplin is in order as I need to buy a new soldering iron anyway :/

Velocio, rr4m gets more stock in quite often, just send him an email asking him when he's doing another batch if you fancy one. I can't remember how much I paid but hairnetnic's £25 number sounds right to me for the micro versions.

  • without looking at one I think this is appropriate...

*Maybe I havn't looked at the switch for a while!

Rapid are probably a bit cheaper than Maplins...

  • Crikey, they seem a bit bulky. The original switch is flat and slimline, only maybe 3mm of height or thereabouts. Maybe one of these would work? http://www.rapidonline.com/Electronic-Components/Switches/Push-Button-Switches/Membrane-Switches

more like mine I think, again, would need to look closer, or even take it into Maplin for them to look at

  • you could try writing to RR4M to see if he can give the specific type. With the membrane type your gambling that the switch connects a voltage. The chip might be looking for a drop in voltage rather than an increase. I might have a play this evening and see if I can work anything out.

  • good shout, after all if an astrophysicist can't operate a simple switch, what hope is there for all us trekkies wanting to see a manned mission to the delta quadrant?

  • Excellent. This is like Real Live Science right here.

Most astros in my department wouldn't know what a voltage is, let alone a switch!

  • It's a type of car, right?

I've mine on my front wheel, I picked up two minis last year and they were about £25/each inc p&p. One of them broke but rr4m has been great in terms of repairing/replacing so I'd happily back him. A pair are much better than a single in terms of the patterns but you need to then turn them on at the same time

  • Mine was ordered while he was out of stock and arrived about ten days later... It's always worth emailing him.
