  • So - used this a few times now.

As I said before - solidly built and easy to switch on and off. A bit fiddly to get in and out of the cage due to length and lack of a lip or neck to grip onto when taking it out - I must have slippery gloves.

Really hard to tell how effective it is. In a well lit urban setting I'm not so sure - when it gets darker I'd say it must be pretty good. Generally feels as if it needs to be a bit brighter - it definitely seems brighter when full. As I say though it is hard to tell from on the bike.

Get some funny looks when taking a swig at traffic lights.

worth buying just for this IMO

  • Just stumbled across this, I'm the Orb guy... Good feedback Mr Sweary, thanks!

    this been posted before?

The difference with this is that the light is in the bottle cage, and uses CR2032 batteries so isn't rechargeable.

  • If anyone wants to give The Orb a go, I've just knocked up a £5 off discount code for LFGSS members, which is 'LFGSS5', use at http://www.orb.bike/shop

  • Since moving to Glasgow, where it's dark all the time, I've added some Cateye Orbit 2 reflector LEDs to my bikes for side visibility. The street lighting is shit here and it rains all the time, so I'm keen to avoid giving drivers any excuse to cover up their poor driving with visibility issues if they hit me.

Question is - does anyone know of an LED spoke reflector that's good for radial or lower spoke count wheels? The Cateye Orbits are good for 3-cross 32 hole + wheels, but my GF's bike has Kysiriums and my commuter has a front radial.

  • dark all the time

    rains all the time

    Sounds awesome

  • Yeah I didn't realise how little it rains in London til I moved here. On the other hand, I'm not spending all my money on rent anymore.

  • awesome - thanks for that - i might give them a go, country A road riding in the dark you need as much visibility as possible. ;-)

  • Thinking of ordering an Orb.

Did a shoulder check going down Tooting Bec a few weeks back and there was a chap on my right with one. Was pretty impressed with how eye catching it was...

  • That's good to hear as I wasn't so sure how effective mine was. Using it pretty regularly now. Just need to find another bottle body that the top will fit to.

  • Are you in SE4?
What bottle cages does it suit best?

  • Bumpity bump!

  • It's going to get darker in a few months. What spoke mounted lights are the cool kids using these days?

Willing to spend a bit of money to get quality. I've previously bought various bits of cheap crap that ended up as electronic waste after a matter of weeks.

  • I'd forgotten all about ledus. Wonder where mine are. Think they need some repair. 9 years - time flies!

  • I've been using one of these for a couple of years. Gives me a bit more confidence on a roundabout for sure.

  • confidence on a roundabout

    Exactly!
Also, plenty of times when you begin to make a turn across the lane of oncoming traffic you'll be slightly diagonal to both oncoming cars and those behind you.

  • I miss my maxi. Nothing else is available that was as cool as those things without a massive battery pack attached to your hub
