  • Not sure if anyone has already posted these but I got here late, I ordered these a few days ago and they came today, they are great, turn many heads. They come with batteries and automatically turn off when you stop, and dirty cheap.

Wow, that's cheap. I just paid a tenner for these http://www.mathmos.com/mathmos-bike-lights-circles-of-light-when-you-cycle-23386-0.html

Come with a presta adapter, seem ok so far - bit sensitive though - whenever I walk past my bike they start flashing. Also not left bike locked up anywhere yet, not sure how sick I'll get of screwing them off & on every time...

  • Hey ho!
A couple of news before the holidays :)

First of all, Ledus Wheelus software ver. 0.567 is out, implementing the following features:
-Brightness slider added and it's possible to make the lights 20% brighter
-Auto brightness (aka smart battery management) added
-Battery lifetime increased by 10-15% in Auto mode (additional 2.5-3 hours of work)
    -Maxi device support added
    -Automatic self-updater added

'Auto brightness' mode both works longer than normal and tries to make the device brighter when the battery is drained. Double win!

  • Also, the image editor was updated, renders both wheels:

(more improvements are on my todo list)

  • And, finally, the new product comes in 2013 – Maxi lights – twice as big as old device.
Not yet made a youtube preview, but specs and some live photos can be found on site.
Want to thank everyone on LFGSS community, all customers and supporters – development (and the new product release) was slightly possible without your support.

    Happy holidays!

  • wow! glad i held off till xmas money rolls in, the maxi is gna be aweeeesomeeeeeeee

  • I think for ethical reasons it is better to buy from trusted, local people, but the chinese have been ripping off monkeylights (and indeed ledus, props rr) to great avail:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330819076511?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

It's damm ugly, the light/accel sensors don't work well.. but it's very cheap and very bright. Not a terrible effect if you maintain ~18mph+. If you can't afford better this isn't bad.

  • THREE batteries!! I'll stick with my one battery ledus!

Btw, rr4m - since I got mine I've been stopped in the street on almost every single journey by people wanting to know what it is and where to get one. You should think about enclosing some little business card things with your envelopes to save people having to try to spell out the name of the site to random strangers in the street :p

  • ^ Just program them to show the website address?

  • Sadly text doesn't work so well.

And this morning, as I cycled in, the battery holder on one of mine snapped off :(

All I heard was a 'ping' in the wet, which by the time I'd registered that the light was out, and gone back as far as I dared to make it to work on time still, I couldn't see either the battery or the metal holder bit :(

I'll email rr4m about it this evening, with a photo, and see what we can sort out.

I'm really sad about it, as I loved running two lights, and felt a lot safer with them on in the dark for some reason.

  • rogan: thanks :) I'll add few more images to the Maxi Default library and then there'll be a short movie.

bothwell: same story, but when the passers-by ask me I tell I made them, not bought :) I'll think about the business cards or stickers probably.

MrDrem: email me with the details, please. Can probably happen on the very first batch of mini devices (first one after the last batch of 'prototypes'). At least I received a report from one guy and his device was replaced. +This issue was addressed and not going to happen on mid-October, November and December devices (and later, of course)

Mr Sworld: Nay, self-ad, and I won't add this into Default :P And when you talk to someone (standing on a traffic light) the wheel is not spinning, right - so simply won't work. But, both mini and maxi devices have the Rainbow Arrows pattern, kinda ledus wheelus logo. If it becomes recognizable, I'll be happy :)

  • I can't give rr4m more rep yet. Could some else give him some for me? The man is a hero and a legend.

I'm more than happy to recommend LedusWheelus to anyone. Customer Service there is amazing.

    Done.

  • effective stuff for side-on visibility?
    see @zebracyclist

    .
very visible except going on a zebra crossing

  • MrDrem, Tenners - oh, thanks much! Not a legend, just trying to make the best product :) Happy 2013!

Just uploaded a Maxi lights preview with space invaders. Camcorder flickers as usual.

Image libraries available for download here. And I think there'll be another vid with SuperMario and Pacman :)

  • Hey all! Want to share a list of future improvements for the Ledus Wheelus lights. What's expected in the next couple of weeks:

    • Bike switcher for the Image Editor - at least I want to have a live render for 20'' bmx, 26'' mtb, some nice 28''-29'' fixie + the picture of my 29er which is already there will stay. If you want something special – let me know.
    • "Image Import" function - will be possible to prepare the image in gimp/paint/photoshop/etc... and import it then. Mainly because it's tricky to create smooth gradients in browser (like this one, guy spent A LOT of time drawing, i think). For gimp it's an easy task.
    • Better image compression for the image libraries - to store 3-4 times more patterns within a library. There are already 40 images in the Mini default lib / 20 in Maxi default, but I decided to improve that a bit as well.

P.S. Many thanks who ordered one device in autumn and returned recently to get another one for the second wheel – that's the best credit we can get, really :) And a good motivation to keep developing new features. All recent orders dispatched, will be with you shortly.

  • rr4m: I love mine, everyone should have a set of your lights. After a couple of days of commuting in the dark I do feel more visible on the road!
I'm just trying to work out how much I need a Maxi for the other wheel...

Nah, I didn't draw it by hand, I wrote a script to generate the pixel colours and reverse engineered your javascript to work out how to submit it.

    Well done! :D

  • Those recharables batteries and a fiddle with some pliers worked a trick - loving riding along with double minis on the front wheel at night! Red and blue chevron being personal favourite from the standard mix

Need to figure why one of them refuses to turn off and goes "blinky" instead

  • PQR: those are prototypes made in Summer, glad you love them! I still have a proto on my front, too. Many improvements have been done since then, including a better battery clips, better power off (page 3), auto brightness, clickable hardware Off on the Maxi device - not the full list.
    Thanks for the feedback!

    dglshrn: pleased to hear :)

  • Got mine recently, yet to try them out. Think I may be missing the gizmos to attach them. Can you tell me if these are just regular cable ties?

I use the mini cable ties that came with the unit... They're more than upto the job and largely thief proof

  • Dumps: a bunch of white zip ties must be inside, the same as used for mounting cycling computer/etc. There's also a photo on the Tech Specs page how it's mounted. Drop me a note if you need an assist.
    hairnetnic: correct! :)

  • Merci, both.

  • rr4m really is the man, I've had the big one for a couple or days now, and not had time to do anything with it, due to preparations for imminent sproglet arrival

Loving the larger light, and looking forward to getting them back onto my bike tomorrow.
