Stopping at the top is fine. Stopping at the bottom before a mammoth climb covered foot deep greasy wet pine needles.......
.....no thanks.

a mammoth climbriding anywhere that's covered foot deep in greasy wet pine needles............no thanks.
I quite agree :-)

Its not so bad. Its those wet exposed roots that tend to undo me.
2013 seems to be all about the 650B FS. Cant say it appeals really. I like the fact that my 29er wheels feel big. They do look ace though.

Give me this 26" FS any day of the week.

I've already ranted about this, but there appears to be very little new stuff out in 2013 other than 650b versions of everything.
With the notable exceptions of more disc equipped road bikes & the Surly Krampus.

Totally.
The number of fat tyre options is increasing exponientially though :D
Top of my list being the 3.8" x 26" version of the Krampus tyre, the knard. $150 a piece though :(

Oh yeah, more fat bike stuff too. Just failing to see any real advances in tech.
I'm seriously considering getting a 2nd Ogre ( in black ) next year. Be nice to run both a singlespeed + a geared version as well. I want one for trailer pulling ( geared ), but really enjoy it as a simple ( singlespeed ) mtb too.

Why not a fat bike with 29ers wheels? cover both option.
Or stick with fatties, hell you can go touring on it.

I like fat bikes, the Moonlander comes in a 24" version for 2013 too, so I could even get one that fits me properly. I've never really wanted one though. Cost comes into it too. The Ogre frameset is cheaper + I can transfer all my LHT bits over to a new Ogre frame ( with a different bar setup ) & run it with v brakes until I can afford some new ( decent ) disc wheels.
I also love the dropouts on the Ogre. I'd like to run a Rohloff on one eventually.

This puts me off a bit too.

That's the thing. A fatbike can be far more versatile than you'd first think.
Snow riding
Beach riding
Mud riding
29er
Trekker.....The bits needed for this versatility, tyres; extra 135/170mm hubsets etc. are mad expensive though.
I just want a summer typeset.
Then maybe a rigid winter fork and front wheel.
Oh dear..

Hmmm?

I once had a fat bike with 25mm tyres ..

If I was going fat ( no jokes ) then The fattest that I'd want to go would be a Krampus. That frameset retails at about £650. For that sort of money I go back into Triton cycles custom Ti territory. I wont be using them for a while yet, but I expect that when I do, the frame will be based on my Ogre's geometry + tweeks

The options on mtbr seem to be that 3'' and 4'' tyres ride far more differently than you'd think.
At your height the krampus does seem to make sene though.
That on-one is nicely designed and speccd. I love the rim tyre combo.

^ Course, if I was wealthy, I'd just buy one* of everything to put in my gold plated workshop/garage/palace :-)

dunno is this a repost, but
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/cinelli-mash-histogram-ultimate-2013/and it has tubular wheels, why??!
-
• #396
Out of stock, but fuck me that's really cheap, hell that's a lots cheaper than trade.
-
• #397
yeh, it is really cheap. I just dont get those wheels
-
• #398
Why not? it's a high end poseur bicycle for the cool kids, if you want normal wheels, the cheaper Cinelli Bolt is a better value*
(picture is 2013 version)*compared to the MASH naturally.

Would love to have this if the price is right;
(£1300)

IF anyone into mash they should buy it and sell the wheels to get some bomb proof alu clinchers or something ..
I fully appreciate the added benefits of a good quality suspension fork ( says the man running a steel rigid ). It just that I'm quite happy with one of these
I know that some people don't like their ride being interrupted by stopping at the top of a hill, but the type of hill that I'd want to drop my post for would probably involve me stopping to put on body armour.
Mtbr's are always stopping during rides for a chin wag anyway ;-)
