  • ^ I was rather surprised by that. The front end looks pretty stiff. I wonder if they're keeping those cable stops in production..?

  • Whole bike for under £600? That's a steal.

Basic spec. But then its a SS, fully rigid bike. Aside from a brake upgrade, what more could you need.

    Bargin.

  • What up with Cannondale's mechanic? the Super X have the handlebar set pointed upward, whether the CAADX's downward.

& yet somehow, they both look wrong.

Cant see the drop-outs. But the weilded frame might be the same for SS and geared, with the drop-outs bolted on. Cheaper to keep things the same and claim its for versatility.

    Is that a 1.5" headtube?

If the bike really can be ran geared. Would'nt be a massive task to run it as shown, with a bigger gear for commuting. Then chuck a bling wheelset on with a 1x10 drive chain and a Lefty for weekend mud fun.

  • Is that a 1.5" headtube?

Apparently. Makes sense for versatility I s'pose. I'd quite like to see a carbon version of that fork. Obviously not at that price though.

  • a 1x10 drive chain

    How about 1x11?

I'm still on 9spd until I run out of spares.

It has vertical dropouts and an eccentric bb according to that article. So it's designed to be versatile like you say.

Was reading about this this morning. Thats a fecking 10-42 tooth cassette!
My fat bike will get a 10 speed Sram with 31t chainring, and a 11-36 cassette.
    I want 10-42t 11 speed cassette.

I cant really see folk swapping all the bits I mentioned for weekend rides.
But its an amazing entry into the 29er world.
Definitly worthy of upgrading over time.

  • I bought a SS rigid 29er and put carbon forks, a groupset and decent brakes on it.

That's maybe not typical behaviour but there wasn't any OTP rigid and lightish 29er on the UK market (there probably will be soon).

  • Just what SRAM derailleur can cope with the massive 10-42t cassette?

  • Bilmey that one ugly derailleur.

    Look interesting thought;

The ratios isn't as bad as I thought it would be, just a little bit wider than usual, no difference to old 5 speed touring freewheel

    (10 - 12 - 14 - 16 - 18 - 21 - 24 - 28 - 32 - 36 - 42)

  • The ratios isn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I'd certainly be quite happy with those ratios off road.

    & yes, it is hideous

  • I want 10-42t 11 speed cassette.

    Need a new freehub :-(

Hope's probably making a conversion kit for the Pro 2 as I type this ;-)

  • Its not much different to the 9 speed 11-32 cassettes we've been using for years. But with a 10t instead of a 11t, and 36t + 42t sprockets to make up for the missing granny ring.

I think its brilliant. I just wonder how vunerable the mech is when its way down on the 42t. I guess Sram thought of this though.

    Dont mind that.

Its the brand new XO rear mech, XTR cassette, Paul thumbie, and TT900 shifter I have already bought that bugs me.

Twist shift would require new bars too. The click shift doesnt look lobster glove friendly.

    Nope.

    Not doable.

  • 11 - 36 10 spd is still plenty off road with a 32 or 34t chainring.

They probably just thought you could buy a new one ;-)

It's a potential ball-ache though. I started riding singlespeed in the woods after losing 2 XT derailleurs ( death by branch/twig ) & that was only with a 11-32 cassette.

  • I want that Caad X crosser as my wet weather bike. Someone on Bike-To-Work employ me please.

  • I also want the CAADX-disc, frame alone would be fine for me

  • Thoughts on the MASH SSCX? I dig it and all the hipster-ness of it... If I had the cash and the need for a SS 'cross bike, I'd be all over it. Would be a fun as shit commuter.

  • It's been about in the US for a bit. Is it available over here now?

The Felt Breed completes look like the better alternative (again US only) with tapered HT, BB30 and 130mm spacing.

  • ^ Felt really should sell the breed in the UK again ( 2009 version I think? ). I'd have thought it would be a popular choice.

  • Some new Surly colours posted up on their facebook page.

  • New Salsa stuff is now on their site.
