  • Perfect so far!

  • Getting there... come on... WHERE ARE THE RIGHT FUCKING WHEELS?!!!

    ... sorry, a little stressed. >_<

  • less stressed

Do we have any more news yet?

  • Gorgeous! :o

  • hit a financial snag......

am broke as a joke but still looking for the hub combination i am looking for.

am willing to to start again regarding rims as i may need to settle for 28/28 or 32/32 front n rear instead of the 28 front, 32 rear as planned.

i'll put togerther a wanted thread for the wheels and see what people have to offer.

dont want to do it wrong so i need to have some patience.

right now it is sitting on a table looking at me every time i enter/leave my apartment so i am always reminded of it!

  • Project over! Time to sell on... what a waste.

    When can I collect?

  • :) not yet my boy, not yet.

  • If it's any use my 32H CX18 (700c) is only being used to keep tubs in shape - Yours for the cost of postage if it helps to get you moving!

  • THanks Rik, very kind offer. postage is to Mallorca so is not so cheap and really its the front that stopping me moving right now (got 700 rears in every corner of the flat!). contemplating getting a stand in until i find the perfect set but budget is of issue right now and will be looking to get one on the cheap locally if possible.

  • Fair enough - hate to see such a nice build stand still for want of dosh or parts
Good luck in finding a suitable front.

  • actually.. schoolboy question: 650 wheel. 26" or 24" rim? 26" right?

  • What about the wheels scorch had on the Merckx? Not sure if he sold them with the frame....

    And 650 = 26

  • 26" is correct
    I don't think there's a metric equivalent for the 24" lo-pro wheel

  • Spoke lacing style, what would you advise?

  • snow flake

  • it is nearly up and rolling. got a mavic stem bar combo, seatpost and chainset is mid polish. nice Laser saddle (not first choice but an admirable 3rd), building a temporary front wheel low flange dura ace to omega 19 and will use a current rear wheel i have until i get the choice wheelset. it will have an air of HHSB until that happens...

if no choice wheelset is sourced over next couple o months then i will build a rear dura ace low flange to omega rear also but it again is not my ideal setup but a good quality one none the less...

so that in mind, what lacing would one suggest?

  • 28h 650 front, 2 cross
    32h 700 rear, 3 cross

  • I have a TT set up on two of my mid '80's SBDU's which is radial front and radial on non drive rear and 2x on the drive. This is one of handful of period options you could consider. My set up also has alloy nipples. The lacing allows for pretty much the shortest spoke length and in turn lightest weight.
Just an option for ya ;-)

Oh, and any up to date pictures? !

  • Crows foot would also be period correct (and mildly amusing)

  • 28h 650 front, 2 cross
    32h 700 rear, 3 cross

    Tbh, that sounds about perfect.
Front radial on a bike like that?! Madman.
Wouldn't mess around with silly lacings on that frame, you don't want the wheels to detract from the amazingly beautiful frame, keep it simple.
