  • Bill, you will get robbed if you enter the wrong neighbourhood...

  • great shot of Nick

  • 75€ registration per team.

30€ per wildcard team in cash on the day with extra 45 payable once you qualify

  • Thanks woods

  • First the dodgy wild-card, now the dodgy rules. Another year that I'm not that gutted I missed out on the Euros.

I don't see many issues at all. It's easy to pick at the rules as we're at the point where we don't yet have a universal set. But still, they're doing their best and I'm sure this is gonna be an amazing tournament. They can easily make a few changes according to positive feedback and probably will do. So it's good to discuss and offer some help. No need to be negative.

  • tottaly!! also, I'm not in the organisation but I'm pretty sure there will be low boards for the Wildcard just like on the Photo of Nick. It seems pretty evident to me that there will be a briefing before the games start and that this point will be discussed. Of course you won't be abble to check someone with a fence this low. Just like it was forbiden in Barcelona

Yeah, Greg's on it and is making some tweaks as people give their feedback.

thats a serious amount of money! isn't the point of sponsors be to bring the cost down?

  • E75 = £60 = £20 per player

  • No need to be negative.

True. Just trying to convince myself I'm not missing out.

  • Forearms are still stupid though.

  • thats a serious amount of money! isn't the point of sponsors be to bring the cost down?

The Euros have always been more expensive for some reason. It looks like you get a free LCS jersey/shirt within that price.

  • Just trying to convince myself I'm not missing out.

    Yeah figured as much!

personally i'd rather pay a tenner and not get a jersey. I look forward to the day when all tournaments can use sponsors to make the events better and bring costs for teams down, at the moment they seem to get a lot for just chucking a few prizes our way (example - chrome supplied 4 bags for the bristol tournament and in return got their logo sprayed on the court). obviously this isn't aimed at you Jono, as you most definitely are helping to buck this trend

  • Jono, what "LCS" stand for?

Brands want there product to be handed out to us so that we wear it in our 'urban environments' and promote them. I doubt you could bargain with them and say, 'please can you give us an extra £1000, so we can reduce the registration fee, and you can keep the merchandise that you have offered for our goody bags.'

But I agree with you. I don't think many people care about the goody bags or prizes. But they are there for a reason; it's part of the sponsorship deal.

  • Bring costs down?

These events are normally too cheap for the amount of effort involved.

  • It is le sporty cock, Rik.

yeh fair shout, ideally you would have both

yep, but sponsors giving money would help these people out and limit the risk of them losing money - i know Tim was £40 out of pocket after brighton, despite having essentially worked full time putting it on.

  • A lot of the smaller companies involved (who are not cash rich businesses in the first place) will have most of their spare cash tied up in stock.

  • If you're making money out of bike polo then you're doing it wrong.

Brighton was awesome and unfortunately most tournament organisers end up out of pocket, it's not all about money.

  • I don't think 75 euros is expensive at all, if anything I think tournaments fees should be more expensive, to guarantee good boards, scoreboards, toilets etc... and to make sure that anyone who enters is serious about the sport.

However for the Euros I understand if eastern european teams find it a bit steep, due to the difference of cost of life between their side of europe and ours.

  • By that logic, why don't we just make it a member's club and be done with it?

We can all marvel out our sponsored bikes/clothing/champagne/lifestyles and talk about the good old days when everyone rode clunkers?

(The best tournaments aren't always the ones with the most funding.)
