Gets custom frame. Has inline seat post.

Trying to make sense of that JB, whaaaaa
-
• #454
+1, what are you on about JB?
-
• #455
As Senor Bear so eloquently put it, inline seat posts are for people who's bikes don't fit them.

Disclaimer. I have an inline post.

I see less sense in setback seatposts.

I see you became a fitting guru. Very impressive.

Only if the bike was originally designed for a layback post.

Yeah man. Didn't you hear that I'm now a professional bike fitter?

Poor attempts at trolling aside, I am interested to hear how you get on with the C17, Sumo.

This.
What's the benefit to a layback?
-
• #465
Putting you in the right position on the bike and vibration dampening. The geometry of mine was designed for an inline post and the top tube slopes down so I can have a longer seatpost for vibration dampening. Personally I think a layback seatpost on a custom frame looks a bit wrong.

• #466
Sort of my point. Obviously I get having one if you need it (I have one) but that's not an inherent advantage.
I'm happy to be proved wrong but my guess is a long exsponded 27.2 seatpost will give better dampening than a bit of setback at the top of the post.
Plus setbacks are heavier.

This.
The only main reason I can think of is using old style saddle with shorter rail, steep seat tube and/or extra comfort.
JB you bloody tits.

• #468
Ironically enough, sumo might need a setback due to Brooks insisting on having short rails on their saddle and may need it to be set a bit further back for the sitbones to sit on the rubber instead of the rivet.
Let see how you get on with it sumo.

Yeah, the rails on the C17 are in a similar position to a Regal, the centre spot is probably 1.5 - 2cm further back than a lot of modern saddles. I might have to switch from my inline to a setback.

I think it looks grand right now, lovely understated build. We've already discussed the bar angle, but if doinitwrong works for you then live and let live!

Some people like a drop from the tops to the levers. Trad init.

Henry, I'll do some more for you next week if you like?
I think the C17 looks a bit dodgy when photographed directly from the side. IRL it normally looks fine, as long as the bike isn't too modern. I just fitted it to the Singular and I reckon it looks pretty good, pretty much just like a Regal.
